Usual suspects, what to look out for on rst engines??
Im in the process of buying a complete rst set-up to be fitted to my mk4 cab, but before fitting id like to uprate some bits... So, where do i start im not going for massive power as id like no reliability issues so what would you suggest head gasket, arp rod and head bolts, head will be pressure checked and cleaned up new valve stem seals. Are there any weak spots to pay more attention to?
Also is the 3i fuel system upto the job if running it, as said not massive power and wnt be running high levels if boost, can i just uprate the pump and filter??

Yea its mfi, going to fit new cambelt, water pump, when do the head gasket,
Ignition wise are there any distributor upgrades??
As far as i know it has a bayjoo chip, dump valve and possibly a cam fitted it'l have a s/s exhaust and decent plugs and leads fitted and after that think il be happy with it.. Untill next year when the power bug bites!!!
For the moment just want it to look good md run spot on will be using it daily for the summer

standard xr3i fuel pump is the same as standard rs turbo on mfi. as above standard head gasket is fine even for over 200bhp. standard stretch bolts will be fine. you will need rs turbo fuel stuff from under the bonnet though as the xr3i stuff is a bit different

The 3i pump is not good enough for rst engine as i found out on my car. I upgraded from efi tank to rst mfi pump n tank to run with my efi rst setup. Do xr3i mfi pumps sit externally if so u should just be able to change pump.

Theres a pump near the tank underneath and a filter under bonnet. Il get a new pump anyways but was wondering if they were the same unsure if turbos ran a higher pressure..
The enginea got wverything there inc fuel metering unit.
Cheers fellas..
Has anyone had any issues tegarding rain and bonnet vents?? I remember my cambelt cover getting soaked and also all around where the airfilter sits, easy enough to make a cover for the underside but just thought id see if anyone elae had the same concerns and what you did??

If it's an MFi cab (as it sounds like) the original tank and pump will be fine. Everything else will require changing fuel system wise and the loom will need changing too.
Best bet would be to get a loom from an EFi cab and fit a full fiesta RST engine, then use OFAC management. might as well have EFi if you're changing the loom. Then you could even go for a plug and play megasquirt later when required.

The cars a shell at the mo with no loom it was gonna be zetec'd but been offered this complete rst set-up for a bargain price so cnt say no, il run it pretty standard for now then maybe go down the efi conversion route when big power calls.
The price im getting all this for wouldnt get an efi engine let alone everything needed to make it run!!
Cheers tho guys

The engine, manifolds, turbo, all the inlet gubbins... All ign stuff, engine loom and 2 ecu's ( is that right??) gearbox, starter, alternatir, radiator, fm intercooler all pipework, think its been chipped and did have a cam fitted but need to confirm if both still fitted... A folder full of reciepts from work carried out and parts fitting.. It was removed from his car as a whole and then sat in garage for 3 weeks now Iv probably missed stuff out but its basically wverything ready for fitmwnt he was going to get a mk4van to put it in but he now bought a rs2000 so made him the offer and he gave me decent price as it was me and he knew i wasnt getting far with my zetec engine

Yea it was fitted to a mk5 cabriolet and the electrics wernt exactly high standards!! I need to buy a full loom anyways for mine so may end up with a 90spec efi loom

'90 spec looms aren't EFi but do have a few trick extras. If you only have the engine section it won't have what you need. Prob best to get yourself another loom.
