hi folks,

ive resto'ing a 90spec S2 just now, and have bought what was advertised as a genuine ford gear knob for an S2 ecsort rs turbo..

i got it today and i dont think it is an S2 gear knob at all!?!??

here is my pic.. (bag is sealed un-open with ford sticker etc- it is genuine ford, i have not broken the seal yet incase i have to return it)



the one on my s2 and the s2 i had many years ago, has a longer gear knob.. unlike like this new one which is short..

before i try return the item: is this an S2 gear knob or an S2 option gear knob?

if not.. i'll be sending it back..

It looks like a mk4 gearknob Mark but not sure if its the same as the turbo one as it does look a little shorter, maybe someone on here has a genuine one they can measure, you should have said you were looking for one as I have an optional extra leather one here I didn't get round to fit, I bought it from ford when I worked there

im pretty sure the stock rs one is long and flat at the top.. (pic taken from ebay- sorry if its someone car here!!)



this new one is fat, round top and short..

hey: i never knew there was leather option one..though i can imagine it will be worth alot more than a plain stock one? that's an aladdin's cave of fresh ford bits you have there!

Aye the RS one does look like that, longer stalk and sometimes the gear shift numbers are coloured on them, If you are not happy mate I would return it as not as described as it must be from a standard model, if you txt me the finis code I can check for you what it is off tomorrow

i bought the same one you have shown apparently its for a mk5 escort but looks fine imo

yes i agree it does look fine.. but so does my slightly worn stock one that im replacing. im after a brand new one ala concourse stock/option for my car!


im going to return it and hold out until the right one comes up..

Mine's a 90 spec H reg rs turbo and when I sold my gear knob it was a leather not rubber.

Definately not a genuine S2 gear knob as its way too short - its very likely to be the Mk5 Escort one - good way to check is to look at the part number - the manufacture date is the first two didits of the number e.g. 89A ***** **** so if post 91 then its clearly a mk5 or possibly later gear knob

I know this isn't what the OP wants but auto specialist have a stock of ford mk5 gti knobs which are leather, i've got one but its a silver insert not the red/green/blue.. i think they look pretty nice.

PS- Roger the red one looks like a similar colour to your car too
