Default fan fuse keeps blowing!

Hi why do my twin fans keep blowing after 5 mins of being on? They are two 10" fans on a 30amp fuse. I wired new loom for them n have them on a overide switch? Is it worth putting in a bigger fuse in as wire is quite thick anyway?

Is the fuse bowing due to current surge, or heat build up in the fuse block? I've had this before in an inline fuse block on a car amplifier. Kept blowing fuses all the time, even with different amplifiers etc, and all it was was a poor solder joint in the fuse block which was causing resistance and a lot of heat build up, this heat was making the fuse literally melt.

i wired one up to standard wiring, to come on via stat, with an over-rider.

Then the 2nd fan i wired straight up to the battery(earthed) and up to the stereo headunit(positive) theres plenty of wattage at the stereo for a 12v fan, this is only used as an over-rider when stuck in traffic.

Fuses blow due to excessive current, that is assuming a fuse of the correct rating is fitted in the first place.

NEVER replace any fuse with anything other than the prescribed rating, the fuse is blowing for good reason and it would be very dangerous to just uprate the fuse, plus you arn't sorting either!

In your case as it happens over time I would think the fans/wiring have a problem. Do both fans spin freely? I woulden't wire into the radio though I woulden't have thought it could supply needed to run a fan as they are juicy components!

We wired my twin fans with a new relay under the bonnet, all new wiring, new fuse box.

It comes on with the standard fan switch, or a manual over ride. Should end up running of the mega squirt when its all back together.

Only issue I've had was when the earth connection wasn't quite upto standard.

Worst scenario is i can always wire it up to the amp in the boot if i ever have any problems, but touch wood its been ok.

i know i shouldnt just put a bigger fuse in, but a standard fan is on 30amp on my focus so was wondering for two what size id need. but to be fair in the last 4 months of running it with these two fans they have been running on a 25amp fuse n ive never had any problems so im gonna put it down to a crap connection somewhere n may aswel rewire it? cheers for help guys

Whatever rating Ford fitted! As with any appliance the fuse should be just above the working amperage.

You can't just guess from what one car is to the next, that said 30A is common as the fans are juicy components!

Check the handbook and replace with the correct rating, if you have fitted a lower fuse then standard then this will cause a blow, as the components, i.e fans in this case are pulling more power than the fuse can handle, thus blowing it!
