Default s1 rs efi help

ive fitted my car with a 18zvh efi ofab, the loom i removed from a car and labelled everything though im left with one wire, a brown which i think will be an earth, it will run without this brown connected also
the car starts and runs but seems to be rich, also i know the fuel pressure needs setting,
anybody know what fuel pressure is required to run correctly its a cossie 2wd regulator,

also i plan on taking it to a tuner but want it to kinda run right,it splutters when under load which it may be incorrect plugs for a start as i fitted some i had kicking about as a temp to get it running, but i dont want to fit expensive ones to foul up
any help appreciated

Can you tell me what the brown wire is connected to? Ie using a multimeter which pin on the ecu it goes to. Brown is normally ground, but can be a ground switching output from the ecu.

yes rob i can do will do it later as im off into the garage, i will continuity test it and count the pin, also i think the spluttering maybe due to incorrect plugs blowing the spark, the plugs were fitted as temps and are c20xe ones i used to get it running as i flooded the originals,i know this isnt ideal but at 9pm at night and your ready for running and thats all you have,i would never drive it on the road with incorrect plugs

many thanks for the reply

No worries, if you get a good light around the back of the connector there are pin numbers for the top and bottom rows. 1-20, 21-40 and 41-60. The side with the location prongs (the rectangles that only let the connector go one way round) is 41-60.

right,
the brown wire is pin 22 which is not connected to anything everything else seems fine though i have gathered pin 22 is

Looking onto the engine loom connector

Pin 1: Ignition Live
Pin 2: Pin 22 (ECU) to the Fuel Pump Relay
Pin 3: Fed From DIS coil pack to the Rev counter
Pin 4: Pin 20 (ECU) Current return
Pin 5: Pins 57 & 37 (ECU) to the Fuel injection Relay
Pin 6: Oil Pressure
Pin 7: B+ (Constant Live)

i currently seem to be using the fuel injection relay wire as my fuel pump feed which im now led to beleive is incorrect though runs,
i have added my own relay for the fuel pump as i have a efi tank fitted,
i am puzzled to think what the injection relay is as im sure i dont have one,i have now seen rabs drawing and its all come pretty clear,i need to now add another 4 pin relay in and swap the wires over

many thanks

Thats the one mate, its not strictly necessary as you have found.

Check your wiring for the MAP sensor if you are still having running problems as this can change between OFAB and OFAC.

Good luck

yes i will do i want to get it ready in my mind before it goes to be setup,
electrics arent my best subject, its a s1 turbo on mfi loom with ofab added,
so basically i need to remove the fuel pump wire i have connected to the injection relay wire
wire pin 22 to the fuel pump and run a new 4 pin relay to the injection relay wire, this with a proper set of spark plugs im hoping will cure my issues

what i am struggling with rob is what the injection relay does and why its needed

tbh mate i've never considered the injection relay. My car has a main ignition fed relay which powers the fuel pump relay.

It could be that the injection relay simply supplies switched 12v to the injectors (why ford would want to isolate this i really don't know), the injectors are ground switching.

I wouldn't be too worried about it tbh as long just buzz through all your other pinouts and make sure they go where you think they should

well this is where im getting confused as the wire i have mpy fuel pump wired to works fine and car starts fine but i am led to beleive this is the injection relay wire,
how or why the injection relay wire gives 12v out im presuming this is to switch the relay on but what is the relay wired to? is this wire a turn on for another ancilliary?

also i really need to multimeter the pin 22 see whats happening with it
cheers dave,on my cousins computer not mine lol
