The ZVH uses a Zetec bottom end with a CVH head

Quite a bit.

It does seam silly tho to put the same size bottom end in with loads of wortk insted of the simple bolt on cvh.

Usuall people go 1.8 or 2.0 for the extra gain.

It's not as simple as that, plus there won't really be an advantage using the 1.6 zetec bottom end. For it to run correctly, the compression ratio will need to be reduced using either new pistons or having them skimmed. That's just the tip of the iceberg too.

All the ones I've seen have been based on the 1.8 or 2.0 block. IMO a well built cvh is just as good as a ZVH or if you're going for silly power, a full 2.0 zetec turbo would be the best option.

If you're on a budget, I've seen steel cvh bottom ends (steel pistons and rods) sell for around Ł500 with 0 miles on them and will take 300bhp with supporting mods.

im currently building one, and theres a fair bit more than just putting a cvh head on it. youve gotta get a specific head gasket, cam belt tensioner, waterpump adaptor, modify the o/s engine mount, welding the head, (depending on how u go about the conversion sometimes u dont need to)
This isnt a bad place to start and gives u an idea of parts req's and how to go about most of the conversion
http://www.zvh-build.co.uk/index.htm

cheers, neil

Oh yeah and dont use a 1600 bottom end theres not much point. 2.0 bored to a 2100 is the best option mate .

my cvh in my rs turbo is smoking very heavy, so my options are:
rebuild this engine, buy another used CVH engine, saw this brand new 1.6 zetec was on sale for only Ł200 i thought this would be the better option but i see it possibly isnt

Depends on what you want from the car really. There are some real bargain engines to be had when people break projects. Just make sure it's exactly what the seller has described.

Not being rude mate , but if u have to ask questions like that then i would not do anything myself , let a good RST garage do the work for ya and let them advise you

thats ok ben, i wasnt planning on doing anything myself as im not a mechanic, i was going to find a mechanic who was familar with rs turbos locally ( can u recommend anyone as i see ur from torquay), the reason i asked that question was because i saw this brand new zetec engine on ebay thinking that this would be ideal , bought it and its being collected on monday morning, but have spent this afternoon reading various posts and come to the conclusion that maybe this zetec wasnt the right thing so asked the question before i cancelled the ebay sale

yes brand new still in a crate, the guy had 4 of them to shift. at the time i thought it would be ideal to give a mechanic the new zetec and my rsturbo, get him to repair asap as i want to take my car upto the national rsoc day.
is there anyone in devon who could work on my rsturbo

Ditch that 1600 Zetec and stick with the CVH. Either that or go full 2000 Zetec.
