Default Turbo Question? (mosty likely again)

Right, i`m thinking of building my own turbo up and saving a bit of cash. after shopping around seems a stage 3 is 650 - 700 notes. reckon i can build one up and get it balanced for about 500.

looking at the following: 0.48 exhaust housing, 360 thrust, 55 trim compressor wheel and general overhaul kit. plus a core balance when built up.

now for the questions, is the exhaust turbine standard? is the .42 comp housing left standard?

and kinda completely off line, my current .36 ex housing is shagged with huge cracks, if i put a .48 on there with the rest standard would it still boost ok with otherwise standard core? saves getting a 36 housing for now then the 48 when the power goes up.

just a thought?

It it really going to be worth it? imo no.

I would just call CR Turbos 01425 638426.
Depending on the state of your turbo, as an exchange they will charge you between £395 (Best case) -£575 (Worse case) +vat & carriage.

not worth building a stg3 turbo for 500 notes or pay someone 700??? I'd say saving 200 quid was worth it.

PM Wilky he will do it for less than your estimated £500
But to answer your questions, yes you can fit the .48 housing now the turbine wheel is not changed when you go stage 3 (or ever in fact) and to fit the 55 trim comp wheel the housing needs to be machined out.

cheers matey will give him a shout when the time is right. just trying to decide on which route to take. will most likely jump in with dekas (for 250bhp might be worth a gamble from states.) and a stage 3 early next year. for now the priority is getting housing changed and the lump mapped and run in with cossy blues. will the .48 make any gains over the .48 with a standar core. presume it will flow better? ony going to 15ish psi with blues. or would a .36 be better off?

It will flow better on the exhuast side yes, but your 45 trim comp wheel (or whatever stock ones are, cant quite remember) will be your limiting factor, a .36 is more suited until you increase your comp wheel size yes.

steel block, thats dedication mate gonna be a beast that, you going for 1600 300bhp club?

i currently on 1600, big valve flowed head, low comp pistons, arp rod bolts etc, t2 cam, grs front mount. just gotta get the turbo and injectors sorted when she`s fully built up and ready for the boost hike.

I think he means he's got H section rods and forged pistons, I doubt he has a steel block or crank that would of cost a fortune and is a bit overkill! lol
