Default starting problem

hi guys, just finished putting the engine back in my s2 today after rebuilding it, however it wont fire up, i have spark and fuel is getting up wen first cranked, it will fire up, run for about 2 seconds then cut out straight away, i can here the fuel pump run wen i turn the ignition on, and it tries to start wen i turn the key, but just wont fire, like its losing the fuel supply, i have checked the pump relay and its a little black inside so hoping its just that but need to be sure, any help wud be appreciated. cheers.

First thing i would try, would be to put a test light or multimeter on the fuel pump wires,to see if the power is lost going to the pump;if it is could be the relay,or the signal to the relay

cheers mate i'll give that a go, frustrating, the car hasnt ran in two years, first time i try to start and it doesnt wanna go, i did notice tho that on the odd occasion wen i turn the ignition on i dont here the fuel pump prime, which leads me to think it could be relay but i'll give it a go with the test light, cheers.
