Default misfire!!!!!!!

my s2 has been parked up for a couple of weeks jump in it last weekend and the cars started to miss, more at low down revs and fine at higher revs, then every now and again i would get to around 3000 rpm hold back like mad and sound like a subaru.

new parts fitted so far =
4x new plugs 071 ford
1x set of motorsport leads
new group A coil
new rota arm and cap
the cars running standard boost around 9psi with no mods, ticks over fine ,starts fine and no oil or fuel leaks.
still the car was the same, checked the timing and was slightly out around 6 btdc, set this to 12 btdc,i little better but still missing and holding back.when i got the new plugs i set the gap at 1mm,with the group A coil i was told to increase the gap to 1.1 mm,still no better.so i tried the gap down to 0.6mm .the cars alot better with only i slight miss at low revs but now pulls fine.could this be the sign of the dizzy failing? sending a weak spark?

Chances are that it needs a decent setup and tune, if you have done what you can the best thing to do is take it to a good tuner. If you state where you are in the country im sure people will point you in the right direction.

In that case you need to search for a setup guide that will help you get it running in a better condition, this will allow you to take a steady drive to the closest place on your list, both will get the car running how it should.

theres a slight miss on tick over now and agian, but it happens when the cars hot and cold.when driving the miss is at low down revs but not all the time.if you take a h/t lead off one at i time the car runs on 3 but all equal.the car drives fine when you get going.tried unplugging the knock sensor ,still the same.all so tried unplugging each sensor one at a time still the same.iam going to get a new dizzy on monday and try that ,if that doest work i will have to try to get it checked over some where.

fitted new dizzy still the same,so i was thinking could it be a air leak?so i gave a small spray bit of easy start around the joints ect and the revs pick up when i spray around the throttle body, especially around where the shaft goes through the body and joins the the throttle linkage.the gasket looks ok could it be drawing air in though the shaft?

I've order a throttle body off eBay and a new gasket, going to try that next week. If that doesnt work I will have to take it some where to be checked over.

Just done a comp test not looking good they are all level, but around 80 psi.I think I there ment to be around 130 psi? I would have thought if it was head gasket/piston rings or a faulty valve ect it would be low on one piston but not them all. The miss is still intermittent with I slight blip on tick over and every now and again when driving.

your right mate but would low comp across all 4 cylinders cause the intermittent miss,or is that still a separate fault?as i would prefer to get the miss sorted then rebuild the engine.

the cars fixed!!!!!!!!!!

1st things 1st never borrow a dodgy looking pressure tester of your dad!!!

dropped the car of at aet turbos on monday to get checked over, told them the faults and the low pressure readings ect.got a call today to go pic the car up all sorted, they did a pressure test came back at around 140 each cylinder.and the missfire was down to the wires that run around the front panel to the coil braking down, fitted new wire car runs spot on.
