Easy enough, drill out the hubs, press in the studs, easier to get a machine shop to do it, but not impossible to do at home.

I would definitely recommend the wheel studs btw, its so easy to strip the threads out of the hub with normal bolts.

just make sure for the love of god u fully drill out the old threads. i sent my hubs off to have the work done, and somehow 1 of the holes was missed, and a stud was pressed in with thread still in place. result, 1 cracked hub

for such a cheap and simple job, it dont half make a world of difference though. no more fighting to line up bolts thru constantly spinning brake discs, and fighting to hold a wheel in place whilst u try and find all the bolts lol

 

why is having studs better than having the normal set up?
i can see what RSandy is saying it would make it a lot easyer lol just wandered if there was another reason.

 

im going to drill my hubs tomorrow on the pillar drill in work, what size bit did you use? 12mm?

I ordered my studs from Burton Power which should be 12.5 but found them closer to 12.6mm. I had a decent 12.5mm drill but wasn't quite big enough so I ordered a good quality 12.6mm drill bit off ebay. I used a pillar drill and then a vice to press them in

Rather than pressing the studs in, you can just do a nut up on them to pull them into place i think...
Be careful when drilling them out, you can't go too wrong as the drill will follow the thread hole, but make sure it doesnt wander off and go thru on the wonk.

 

As Roger says, I also put my studs in the freezer and my hubs in the oven, made installing the studs very easy.

Have you tried the old cylinder head in the dishwasher trick lads? Works a treat!

 

I am aware of it, but havn't tried it. Come the summer i'll want afew bits cleaned and degreased so i'll give it a go - what program's best lol? I don't imagine the "eco-wash" program is much use for engine parts it barely cleans off last nights ruby murray!

 

The dishwasher isn't any good for ali heads i find, great for blocks tho, but seriously WAIT UNTIL THE MISSUS IS OUT!

The hotter the cycle the better, just get rid of any degreaser etc first as it stinks enough to get you in trouble when she's back!
