this is the reply i got from piper cams.co.uk
Hello,
If the cam is noisy it is probably worn. We know that there are some low quality lifters in the market which will wear the cam and we think that may be the problem.
Regards,
Ian Cox.

this is the reply i got from Jamsport
The cvh engine suffers with cam issues, we have seen cars eat a cam with in a very short time, now we only use a Newman cam with solid lifters. Have you checked the oil pressure to make sure the lifters are getting enough pressure?

TBH, i would rather fit a used but good cam than a low quality unknown cam. So long as all the lifers are matched properly to the correct lobe.
Same goes for oil pumps, i would rather fit a used good pump than an unknown.
If the lifters aren't with a used cam, or the lifters are jumbled up i wouldn't fit it.

Tbh if you have bought a used engine, unless it was specifically guaranteed the bill lies with you, unless the seller offers it as a good will gesture,
However if they guaranteed the engine was perfect etc, then they should foot the bill.
Although saying all of that, if i were the seller i would want to be looking at evidence.
So get that cam out and have a look.

Rob,
i bought a rebuilt engine rob, which has only covered 25 miles, i was asuured that the original parts were not worn, i asked him to check this as if someting was worn that would be the time to replace, D&s said he would stand over the work he done, also D&s specialise in MK3 and Mrk 4 escorts so they should have known old cam and new lifters was a bad idea.
he has told me he will have a look at the cam, i dont want to start pulling it out incase he accuses me of wrecking something.
also the noise was there ever since i got the car back, D&s told me this was normal when running a piper cam. i only found out other wise when i got a second opinion
