Default Engine Rebuild time :(

Put my new turbo on last night and finally got the car running today, been driving it all day and having fun.

Basically it comes on full boost at 5k revs, and goes like f*ck..I was just driving home and i was playing with some mates on the dual carrige way when my car topped out at 110..Anyway i carried on driving home and it sounded like it was missing, so i pulled over in the petrol station, opened the bonnet only to find my dipstick was out and oil had pissed everywhere!! So i think ive dropped a ring or even f*cked a piston? Any ideas?

It doesnt sound good, my mates said its time for a rebuild, but im not exactly the richest boy in the world to say the least!!

Roughly how much for a rebuild?

Any help is appriciated..Joe.

As said above, doesn't look good.
The cheapest and easiest option would be to buy a good known bottom end or full engine.

But if you want to rebuild it, DIY as liam said can vary depending on machining needed.
As a rough guesstimate, my build with arp rod bolts and crank & flywheel grind and skim probably cost between about Ł400 and Ł500. That's just a quick sum if all the main parts off the top of my head.

Hope you get it sorted though bud...and get it set up properly after too! Lol

what jimmy says sounds about the right price for a normal build mate, also what i would say is take off your head and inspect the bores first as if one is fucked or the bores are lipped too much u will need a rebore an poss new pistons, which will be a huge lump of money an maybe best just to buy a good bottom end as jimmy says, i only originally took my engine apart for a bit of a freshen up as it was slightly low on compression on bores 2/3 and have ended up replacing pretty much everything, the only things still left from when i started is the crank and rods, i guesstimate that its cost me around 1k to build myself as i said u need to kno the extent of the damage 1st, if i can help in any way just send us a pm im always on here

if he really cant afford to pay to have the work done send the engine and parts to repair it to me and ill do the work foc, all he will need to pay for is any machining needing doin or he could get all this done himself and send me the parts and ill build it up for him, may work out cheaper sendin it to me than payin for labour,

thanx

I have some good news and that is the car started earlier and sat there idling for 20mins then i drove it around the block, so its not the pistons thankgod! There wasnt any smoke etc or signs of it. It still sounds like its slightly misfiring though, its hard to tell as ive just put a .63 rear housing turbo on it so the exhaust note has changed alot since it took place.

Ive heard that the breather pipes can block and cause this aswell? I still have a standard breather system on it :/ Should get a baileys really!

Thanks for the off Liam and thanks for all the help lads.

Joe.

Nice one, just dont let it come on boost until youve had the fuelling checked or you'll be back on here asking for more help rebuilding it! Haha

All I can say is top bloke.

I would agree with every thing above tbh. You just wont know anything until its out the car, stripped and clean.

You may be lucky and just have a burned exhaust valve for instance, or you could have a damaged piston etc, you just don't know.

A compression test will tell you lots / point you in the right direction.

Good luck

Shit, just read the rest of the thread lol,

Sounds promising!

Don't forget the the missfire could have (would have!) been caused by the dipstick popping out!!!!!

If the dipsticks popped out it would suggest too much crackcase/breather pressure...?
Clean all the breathers out and do a comp test/leak test to see if the rings/valves are letting boost pressure by and into the oil system...

Hello Joe,

Are you running a 1.6 cvh? or Zetec?
A .63 rear housing sounds Huge for even a 2.0 Zetec.
How high do you rev this?

Cheers
