that focus sounds like its got a boost leak as he's not accelerating quickly at all!

i think the noise (in the first pic) is the turbo stalling and the "chatter" you get from the chopy air as it exits the air filter. you generally get this on cars not fitted with dump valves/blow off valves/recirc valves.

What filter you running Hansen? & what size housing? boost?

-34 dumps the air out fast, it won't filter through like a -31 on a normal T3; .48 or above won't chatter too much on a 1600 without 2bar lol.

I prefer the cobra rattle to the turkey gobble chatter anyway

Not really, all the chatter needs is for the boost to hit that throttle body and bounce back in essence, so the way the car comes on boost dosnt make a difference, how much boost does, as it will stall the shaft harder with more boost

Yeah more pressure more stall, makes sense... always thought -34's on 1600's meant more of a kick-in & kick-down with the boost. Or again unless you're running 2bar...

It's because Gary opens the throttle almost straight away after letting off each time, if you just close the throttle and leave it it carries on quite a bit longer.
Running stock mounts, quite a bit of movement isnt there! lol

Yeah quite abit of movement Karlos , im on poly mounts n it don't budge !
Good point about the chatter, if i change gear quick i can get it to barely chatter at all whereas if i leave the throttle shut it goes on for 2-3seconds.

MFi, these are hard to figure. The airbox/metering unit muffles the sound so you don't hear much with them, but they still do chatter somewhat, just need a decent amount of boost i think. An alloy pipe don't make much diff on either MFi or EFi, mines on a samco hose from the turbo running 11-12psi and it chatters loads on EFi, my m8s MFi was on 18psi and chattered with a samco pipe to metering head and a ram-air cone on the top.

Whatever way you look at it, its a wicked sound and its better than a "chav-valve" altho some people swear by dump valves improving throttle response!

I was told the hose shape and type of filter make a massive difference. My old CVH RST used to have a REALLY high pitched chatter and ran a Pipercross filter on a hose that was on a 45 degree angle.

My brothers FRST with a GRS intercooler makes amuch lower pitched slower chatter to my old one. Was dead funny when were going to car shows coming on and off boost side by side

my saph cosworth chatters like a fooker, i quite like the sound but surely it doesnt do the turbo any good to be spinning at a 100000 billion rpm one way and then be met with air trying to rush back in

i actually changed my DV as i thought it was fooked, new one was ok for a week now back to chattering again, it seems to sort itself out once the engine gets properly warm.
Getting a nice hks model soon, my mate has one on his celica gt4 and its the best sound ive heard so far from a DV
