Default Relocating battery to boot

I want to put the battery in the boot of my RST, what would be the best wire to use and where from? tried local motor factors but no joy.

I have looked into this for my MK5 Track car. I have found a junction box at Demon Tweaks but I haven't found cable at a reasonable price yet. I am just going to run the +ve through the bulkhead, I am going to run an earth to the boot

I thought about running the earth to the boot but i think it would be better a new cable straight to the gearbox for a better contact

Edit; just seen the price of the cables would be a hell of a lot cheaper earthing to the boot!

multi strand welding cable-easy to joint and bend-will take a lot of current,(VOLTAGE DROP!!)
battery in the boot-
earth ofF onto the floor
run supply inside to the same connections as existing-
you may wish to incorparate an FIA cut off switch -With shUnt.

Im in the process of doing this, just got me some nice 70mm2 to run live to engine bay. Im probably going to run ground to boot floor but still tempted to run one to engine also? not sure yet. My main worry regarding supply would be fuel pumps and ecu but the fuel pump will have a ground straight to the battery anyway with the pumps been on boot floor.

try local breakers ,find a car with battery in the boot ,a lot of bmws have them there ,and strip out the wiring ,wont cost much either

Durite will do everything you need. Earth the battery to the boot floor the shorter the better drill a hole in the boot floor and weld a bolt in it that way you can make a good connection to the chassis. Earth the engine to the chassis and make your own earthing kit and earth alternator and starter casing to the chassis too.

I would also recommend butting in a large fuse or some kind of fuseable isolator in the boot to protect the wiring from a dead short to earth (fire!!!!)

Sorry about the crap pics, they are all I have right now.

ERST battery tray welded to the boot floor. The ERST also has a handy earthing point where the spare wheel bolts down. Earth should be as short as possible and the contact needs to be bare metal to bare metal. Sounds stupid, but the ammount of ring terminals ontop of paint ive seen with people saying "I can't find that 'bad' earth"

I ran a peice of Welding cable (can buy from VPL, buy the biggest cable you can budget) as the live right from the (+) on the battery to a power disribution box in the passenger footwell. (when the inside is painted it will all be properly P clipped down etc and tidy)

From here the ECU, Fusebox etc can join up to the live without being routed back to the battery keeping the runs as short as possible and the wiring neat.

I hid all my wiring so it goes through the inner arch, front crossmember etc and out here to the starter motor, but if you didn't want to hide things you can just run it down the engine bay as normal but you will need to drill a hole in the bulkhead for the live to feed through. (if you do drill a hole to feed the wire through, use a grommet on the panel as you dont want the cable rubbing through and the (+) making contact with the body.

The engine block then needs to earthed.

As my wirings hidden I've gone off the alternator bracket to the front panel. I left one of the ARB bolts 20mm too long so the earth and radiator mount to this.
