not full but adequate.
it had cam fitted at 84k,
apart from that, it was chipped, k & n, exhaust system.
it was chipped at 75k, (roughly)
i was shocked by the condition of the engine.
the previous owner might aswell been henry ford,
he was in love with the car, think he had RS bed sheets.

Impressive!
Did the engine had any weird noises? Or did you just decided to do a rebuild cause of the milage?
Reason for asking is that I have thought about rebuilding the spare engine I have. My engine has done 111k atm. Seeing these pictures makes me fear for what would happen if I added more bhp.
atm I want to see a sign saying "MSD coming to a town near you"

Mine has a rattle from the top and I'm almost sure its the cam.
But just wanted to know if it had any weird noises before it came off the road?
Cause if an engine in that condition doesn't have any noises, I will forget changing a headgasket on my 111k engine and just run it, and try to rebuild the other engine before the old one dies.

bottom end damage is usually known to the engine making a growling sound
whens revs are let of,
thats the reason i decided to do rebuild, not only that but i wanted to increase
reliability, more power and decided to do it before any thing went seriously
wrong. by the looks of it, i decided to do it at the right time

A hell of a lot better that what yours was mate!!
The crank bearings only had slight wear marks in them and were not starting to break up like yours. Bores were in decent condition too...
Mine was completely standard for those 120k miles though and was serviced to death....

i am currently looking for a RST at the min prefferbly an S1 was thinking about buying an Engine to rebuild myself beforehand to seal the deal. Does the S1 and S2 engine vary that much? Also as a bit of a amutuer i would need some guidence to rebuilding an engine how did you go about getting the information for yours?
cheers fad

The engines are both the same, but i wouldn't advise doing one yourself if you don't know what you are doing.
ajc got his information by taking it to a professional to sort out...the best way in my opinion. Do one thing wrong, and you have a buggered engine on your hands ! Unless you have someone with the knowledge, I wouldn't try it m8.

well when i say i am an amuteur i have knowledge on how an egine works and goes together but i am more familiar with the XE's from vauxhalls. Its just having a step by step guide and all the details of the torque settings i would need more than anything. Also it wont be a rush job to get it into a car or anything and i would be taking my time. Judging by the above pics the engine seems pretty simple compared to some rebuilds i have seen in the past
