Default where does this pipe go

hi guys,
gonna replace my breather system for a bailey type set up.
my plan is to put left rocker vent, right rocker vent and crank case vent all into new alloy breather .
then gonna blank off metering unit and vent alloy breather to atmosphere.
Is this the best way?as ive read that its not good to vent back into the metering unit.

Question is,what do i do with the slim vacum pipe on top of left side of inlet manifod?the one with the one way valve on it.
you should be able to see what i mean by the pic below.

theres no where on my new breather set up to connect this so it will be left hanging.
should i block if off or link it to the right one or something?
right one has my dump valve and boost gauge running off it

cheers guys
steve

Block it off ,or take the boost gauge off the other one and run it there instead

nope they're the same mate.

if you can get hold of an efi inlet they have a nice ford stamped rubber blanking plug you can use on it instead if you prefer makes a neat job of it.

do you agree i should vent to atmosphere and block metering unit?
and should i have a catch tank somewhere somehow?

no need for a catch tank, the bailey breather sits on the right of the engine and the bottom hose goes straight to sump so it'll just return there.

I left my metering unit connected to it, but it does make abit of a mess in the boost hoses! oily mess tbh.

Hello mate,

If you don't have a one way valve, and your are running mfi don't vent to atmosphere (unless i am corrected). iiRC your metering unit relies on crank case vacuum to fuel correctly, introducing a leak of any kind will result in lean running (ie, just like taking your rocker cap off when running).

Mine had one (spec-r) on and it worked fine, i think the standard breathers have a hard time with high boost??? I've taken it off of mine now and venting to atmosphere as efi doesn't rely on the vacuum....

Convert to efi mate

the vac pipe to the inlet is for pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) and does not work when you are on boost when you need it most (it is closed) it is there for drive by emmisions, hoovereing the crank. blank it off. I personally would vent the breather to atmosphere, as long as you blank the metering unit it will not effect fueling at all, it may even fuel more accuratly due to not having any leaks

if you block of the metering unit there's not a problem. If there's a leak the metering unit will see less air and it will inject less fuel.

In the intake there can't be a leak. Normally the crankventilation is going back to metering unit so if you take of the oil cap it runs shit, because you make a leak.

When you disconnect the crankventilation from your metering unit you can vent it to atmosphere. but you have to block the inlet on the metering unit. If you vent to atmosphere you won't get all the oil/oil damps etc back in the engine; intercooler etc so yeah it's a bit better to do, but less good for the envoirment

Ahhh cool, i just wasn't sure if it would still work. But if you can just block the metering unit then that sounds like a plan. tbh it does make sense lol,

Ive just fitted a ZVH into a fiesta, Its efi on MS, the breather currently has NO catch tank and NO pipe on it yet, there is no trace of oil from it at all, this is because the engine is in tip top condition, no worn rings, hard valve stem seals, HG probs etc, All that is required is a pipe down to the ground to vent any odors and prehaps oil condensate if it gets a propper caning. I suppose it depends on the condition of your engine as to how heavy the breather is, and how much oil/fumes comes out of it.
