oil coolers...
thinking where to mount mine was originally bolted to my inner wing so when the headlight ws removed it had good airflow. now this is all going into my mid-engined series 2. i wanted to make a duct coming in from one of the rear windows, has it just got to be kept below the rocker cover ? thanks in advance

Sandwich plate in place of the original modine where the oil filter screws into!
Not sure on the level question though, a friend of mine has his mounted where the blower box was in the engine bay so assume it's not an issue as his sits above the rocker cover so to speak.....the oil is under pressure remember so don't see why it would be an issue??

How do you mean 'only goes as high'.....not sure what you mean by that really, fitting an oil ooler with longer lines may affect the oil pressure slightly but there's no reason why it won't pump oil above the rocker cover!!
Not something i'd ever thought about tbh as my oil cooler was behind the front bumper in front of the wheel anyway but my friends car has ran like this for years and is purely a track car, never known him to have any issues.

just realised ive got this all wrong... so it should be fine how ever high its mounted? so it wont effect the oil seperator in any way? just wanna be 100% before i mounted it. i want to mount it around the middle of the rear window with an airduct to keep a good flow of air to it.

I imagine it wouldn't be an issue where you mounted it, but i wouldn't have thought you want the lines to be excessively long tbh, purely from an oil pressure point of view (again i'm only speaking hypothetically as someone may correct me lol)....but yeah you want good airflow over the cooler for it to work at its best.

Here is were i have mounted mine dude
I got the oil cooler of the net and the fitting kit, i.e sandwich plate an the angle ends for the pipes these bolt to the cooler and sandwich plate if that makes sence lol. i choose to straight ends and to 90 degree bends and then i mounted it were i wanted it bolted every thing in place i put the straight ends on the sandwich plate and the 90 degree bends on the cooler. i then got some old hose pipe and put it to get the right length i needed un bolted the ends that are still in the hose pipe and took them to a hydraulic hose company and got them to put the ends in some suitable hose and thats it pal job done.
but you will need to sort out your oil pump i.e up rate and if you do this you will need to replace your oil pressure swicth for a cosworth one

the only trouble with mounting at the front for me is i'll have very long hoses going from the back of the car to the front, which will put more strain on the oil pump i would of thought.

For reference the highest I have seen is about 105c, peeking at 27psi of boost with an ambient temp of 25c, but compared to track use I would not have been up in the revs and pushing that sort of boost for very long.
Same conditions on track... I can imagine things getting a lot hotter

Temps wise i only fitted one due to high temps on track....mid summer when pushing hard on track for 10 minutes + my oil temps were climbing to 120 so definately not just for show if you're planning on using a biggish bhp/boost car on track!
On the road you never replicate the strains of track driving imo, no matter how hard you think you are driving

Agree with rstdave, before I fitted a oil cooler I was seeing 125c on track. You would never see it that high on the road, well unless you was on a deathwish or after robbing a bank!!!

I want to fit one purely to get rid if the Shit water cooler on the filter plate. They can block causing no oil flow
Fitting a thermo statick plate at 80 degrees and a remote oil filter plate. Goin to use the vents in the bumper as said. Oil cooler one side and turbo cooler in the other.
Used the get the oil temp on my zetec s and civic above 120 no bother lol, dropped to around 100 when in death mode once fitted.

Watch out with the remote oil filters Lee, if they don't have a one way valve and are mounted high up the oil drains out of them leaving you with no oil pressure on start up. Sister has an RV8 with this and its done it no favours.

Used them a few times on my jap slags. Will only use mocal gear so think they come with them. Will be mounted were metering head was so quite low. Cheers for heads up pall.
Need to order a little 5 or 7 row cooler for the girl friends fiesta st to cure the power steering boiling problemm. Getting bored of cleaning up pas fluid from all over the bay.

Can I fit an oil cooler sandwich plate without remove the old oil Water/cooler or it is needed to remove it and fit the sandwich plate directly to the engine block??
Thanks.
