Default How do i remove my brake servo?

Evening all,

i want to remove my brake servo from my car so my mate can rub it down and paint it as its going rusty. I realise you undo the bolts from behind the dash inside the car (my dash is out at moment anyway), but what i want to know is how do u get it off of the pedal bar bit, looks complicated to me.

Any tips/pointers?

cheers

Easy as pie mate, undo all the bolts you can see on the left (think there are two??) stick your head behind the brake pedal and you will see a spring clip holding the bar onto the brake pedal, take it off and pull the whole assembly off as one, brake bar and all. Then go on ebay and get a some new bushes for it (they will probably have some play) and jobs a goodun.

LOL i know how u feel mate, first time round when i built mine up i bought loads of new bits, then decided to strip engine bay again and go cossie management, now im going to be spending loads more.
Are the bolts etc that they sell to secure the brake bar etc zinc plated or are they just normal steel that will rust in time?
I didnt even know such a company existed that did spares like that for mk4 escorts. I am kinda gutted i saw your link, as im one of these people who if i nknow parts can be relaced for new i'll want them lol. Oh crap here we go.

Some of the bolts are, lots of the parts are original old stock ford... some are plain bolts and not plated BUT...... i have just bought a zinc plating kit so i can be extra anal.

Mike, its all right unless you start restoring your car.... then new bolts look soooooo enticing, they do sell new washer bottle mounting kits tho lol, i think i will have to live with putting the bottle in the dish washer....

Mine was half restored in the way that it had new panels, sills etc but then all the old suspension was just bolted back on. I took it off again and had it powdercoated but then again used the original bolts as was going to use all new stainless ones till i read somewhere they may not be as strong as original ones. But now i want to paint the underneath and change everything like the bolts etc so the mot tester gets a nice view. Face it, no one else will be able to see them lol.

Rob,
Haha, I bought my ERST off a lad who works with my brother and when I took mine for MOT at my brothers work, hiss boss said, "Neils old Ford eh? I'll get my 'special screwdriver' shall I" expecting ti to be a rot box. Put it on the ramp, looked underneith and said "oh, fuck off!"

Sorry to bring a old thread back to life but am wondering how do u go about getting number 8, 9 , 10 off, i'll have to have a play about 2moro.

Also, the clip thats number 13, is that the one that holds the brake pedal in place onto the bar? mine has snapped one of its tabs. Anyone got microcat and can get me a part number please.

Hello mate,

NO6 has two nuts, one on behind the bulk head and one in front, undo them both and you should be able to pull the bar to the left giving you access to NO8, you should already have access to NO9/10..... post if you don't and i will brave the cold to refresh my memory!

although i told you to take the whole lot out on second thoughts it looks a mare with the engine in.

Good luck
