Default Boost Control

Is putting pre-load on the actuator a good way to control boost levels. Ie having no bleed valve just a pipe from actuator to turbo?

Not an elegant way but if it works... Might wear out the actuator rather quickly...

Most professional way would be to get an uprated actuator with stronger spring.

Also it largely depends on what boost you want to run. If you only want 10 PSI it might be doable with a standard actuator, 14 - 15 PSI is definitely uprated actuator and/or bleed valve time.

I run 14psi with a bleed valve and have a -31 actuator, it works well.

Bleed valves are fine if dont look at them as a quick way to alter the boost. Set the car up with one on, and then just leave it alone. dont touch it... ever!

Nothing wrong with just using a -31 and Amal, or as above with a bleed valve.

The car was currently just set up with a -31 and about 7mm of preload or 2/3s of the hole in the rod. It was only holding around a bar. I put a bleed valve on today and turned it out 1.5 turns and the car now holds around 16psi. Its going for a set-up soon to check fueling so we will see how it performs then.

There is nothing wrong with the standard amal valve so why change it?

With an electronic boost controller the ECU has control over the boost where as with a bleed valve it dosen't.
