mine just had a couple of moments when we was getting the car running, possibly due to the over fueling, but more likely that I've gave it a hard time while trying to get it running

is there not a local specialist that recons them , my grandda has been reconing straters alternators dynamos etc for 40 years now and offers a unit rebuilt and guaranteed from prices ranging from 40 to 75 average dependant on starter type. i know its no use to you as you down south but it might be a cheaper better alternative

know what your saying bythomson, but a diesel starter should spin a cvh over so easily, it should be like an upgrade

I'm on a connect starter and it's mint. You'll need the cheaper connect starter motor (there is 2 and 1 is a cold climate motor which you don't need. Make sure you get a 3 bolt fixing and not a 2 bolt).

Direct fit indeed. Might need to swap the terminals from the ignition switch (black red wire) if you're on a spade terminal to an eyelet (ring terminal) but other than that it's direct.

If you ring ford, the cold climate starter is about Ł220 and the normal starter is about Ł160 IIRC. About Ł70 ish off ebay or from a spurious supplier (motor factors). The difference is the size and you won't know unless they are side by side. Chances are that the cold climate starter was never fitted to many vans in the uk and it would have been an option. It'll be a rare thing.

I got one of these (same company and same starter LRS1627 although they turn up black in colour unlick the zinc colour in the picture).

Get down the breakers and take one off a early zetec with front mount starter. It should have external bolts hodling it together and very short keeping it away from the turbo. Costs about 25 quid round here.
