Question Engine management question

After getting the general consensus that cossie management isnt the way to go have been doing some research and have decided to go with Emerald.

Now I know you need to purchase/fit the following parts to do cossie management.

2 Bar MAP Sensor
'Yellow' Injectors
Cosworth Ignition Amplifier
Cosworth Ignition Amplifier Heatsink
Cosworth Water Temperature Sensor
Cosworth Air Charge Sensor (ACT)
Cosworth Idle Speed Control Valve
1.8 CVH OR XR2i/FRST 1.6CVH Crank Sensor
1.8 CVH Crank Sensor bracket
1.8 CVH Alternator pulley and bracket
1.8 CVH Crankshaft pulley and bracket
1.8 CVH Crankshaft pointer ring and bracket

But the question is do i need to purchase/fit these or different items for Emerald.

There is loads of info around about doing cossie, but hardly any about Emerald.

Thanks

Barney

my guess is you will still need at least a complete efi inlet manifold, a coil pack and bracket, some form of crank position sensor and pick up, be it on the flywheel or crank pulley, suitable injectors

Probably best asking whoever supplies the emarald

You better go away and do some more research mate. Emerald over any other management system is not a good choice imo.

Couple of facts first.. All the trigger items and sensors that you will need for emerald you will need for cossie. So the price you will pay for emerald is more to start with as the loom and ecu will cost more! Then you will need to take it to someone who will map it. That will cost another 500 quid so what a waste of money when you could have weber running better than emerald could and for far less money. Seams silly to me. Why not speak with some people who have had emerald and removed it to fit better systems.

Cheers Jano.

I was only going on what other people have advised, as like most thing everyone has got thier own point of view. So what management would you suggest then?

Don't want to go for silly BHP just what the car to run decent BHP and lose the MFI issues.

cheers

just out of interest who is it that has advised against weber? if you want proof as to how well it works just take a look at the results the nms cars have had on it. just because it's twenty years old does not make it shit. for what you want weber is the way i'd go mate. fit all new sensors, get a brand new loom form ryan and away you go. it'll be as good and reliable as any other efi system and it has the advantage of having easy access to replacement sensors etc. i'll be running weber when my rst is built back up and i'll probably only change when i put in an st170 turbo engine and the only reason for that'll be so i can run gucci shit like vvt to keep the response there.

Homer,

I have been asking general questions over the last couple of months to friends, family and also tuners and the general thought is yeah cossie management is good but getting a little dated now and there are easier ecu's out there to install and tune.

Also a close friend of my brother in laws owns Redline Tuning and i have seen what difference emerald can make over standard(ish) ecu's and liked what i saw.

Thats how i've come to my decission, but like i've said above if anyone can suggest anything different then please let me know i'm open to any suggestions.

Also as Jano said above if anyone does have a Emerald K3 ecu for sale or knows of someone that might have one they dont want can you please let me know.

cheers

Barney

I would personally go with cossy management if i wasn't going to set the car up my self. agreed its by no means new but ford would have spent 10 maybe 100 times what emerald did in development and testing. You will nearly never beat an oem ecu for drivability plus there are countless tuners who can easily map the weber gear. Have a chat with MSD about their wated spark, closed loop and launch control boards.

If you were mapping it your self i would suggest nothing other than megasquirt.

Im not slating emerald, omex, pectel etc. Just making an observation over development of the systems.

Rob,

This is the easiest question to answer and it still gets regularly asked! lol
Choose what ever management your tuner is most familair with, as he will get the best results with it
Or as Rob says if you are fitting and mapping it yourself then go with Megasquirt as there are a lot of us on here that can help you with it!
