what does the throttle position sensor do?
what does the throttle position sensor do? the reason i ask is my erst s2 mfi wont idle properly, if i move the tps when idleing it does nothing engine sounds the same and no change when i unplug it.
is it just for when your on boost or something?

It's a potentiometer that supplies the with ECU info on engine load, I.E at WOT the ECU at other end when your off throttle it can shut off fuel on the overrun for better economy. knows from this it needs to provide more fuel. Nothing related to being Turbo N/A cars have them. Presume RST uses a ISCV for idle compensation if so if this is set wrong it will give false information which is why your idles all over the place.

very basic on s2, check that as soon as you move the throttle the tinyiest bit you hear it click. Most need adjusting to achieve this (holes are elongated to allow it but some times not enough; file them out).
defo, without engine running give cable a slight pull and it should click the TPS. if not loosen the two screws and give it a slight turn, really cant remember direction but it should be obvious, and it will click. Tighten it up there and check that at soon as you come away from what would be idle it clicks, if I remember right it should click again at full wide open throttle. Seem to remember someone saying this sensor was robbed from another car and as such the adjustment was not enough, i.e. the elongated holes were elongated the wrong way for this application and in certain cases it wasnt possible to get the adjustment required, in these situations the holes are to be filed out slightly.
