Default Fords bloody prices! oil pump needed

Just came back from ford

wanted

oil pump - £145
head gasket - £49
bolts - £55
water pump - £185
hand brake cable (rear half) - £50
cam belt tensioner - didn't even ask

thats a total of nearly £500 with out any shells etc! tossers

Head gasket gen ford on fleebay is £39 so sorted, i bought the bolts.

My real question is... any one know where i can get a good pattern oil pump from, as i don't really want to ruin my engine, but don't particularly want to spend the 145 ford want.

An AE oil pump will be fine. I also used Motor factor head bolts as they are identical to the ford and cost a tenner a set. Water pump I paid around £20 for a Quinten Hazel from factors which was identical again to the ford one I had. All these parts lasted 40k miles on old CVH which was totally reliable on a T34 at upto 2bar until i dropped a valve...

Good s/h pumps are worth using, they are proven free of manufacture faults.

i don't think i've ever bought a new oil pump, only ever had them fail if the oil level was too low and surged.
i kept all as spares too, so i have some spare for some change.

Main stealer prices seem to have rocketed on RST parts. My brother was quoted £30 for a turbo to manifold bolt. WTF

Rob,
if its a ford pump they are always better at initial start up etc and as for the spring i should have said shimmed spring as you want 3mm to 4mm shims on the end of the spring that will give you what you want pressure wise,as for after market stuff ive never had a good experience with any of them so always used ford after that never had an issue.the worst were always the burton ones always hear horror stories about them.

Is that how much it is for a genuine ford water pump now! 1 year ago i bought mine from ford for 65 pounds. they did tell me that those water pumps had been discontinued however they were brringing them back and they are dearer at 65 pound. but a whole year on and here we are 185 pounds down the line. wow. I have used a pattern one once. never again it lasted all of around 1500 miles if that before it started whining its arse off.
