Just been browsing the site and i seen a few people running Electronic Boost Controllers, they look like a nice handy piece of kit to have.

all tho i did hear it just tricks your car into running more boost than its capable of.

What do you lot think any good or just another pointless mod ?

 

nope very good mod, just about to order a Gizzmo-IBC 3.5 BAR one later this week.
far better than an actuator and bleed valve, you won't suffer surge as much if at all and can program it to have low and high settings, ideal for launches where you lose traction a lot.
it's fairly well priced at £200 or there abouts and hopefully will make it much smoother too

 

A very worthwhile mod to do, have a greddy profec in mine.

 

One of the best things i ever put in mine, got fed up with bleed valves and fluctuating boost! Greddy profec b spec 2 for me, nice and simple and does its job without fail, you can adjust how the boost comes in/spikes etc, mine peaks and just holds boost so well!

 

How much power are you guys above running?

i've not had a problem in almost a year with fluctuating boost etc, or any problems really, i had a -31 actuator and ableed valve fitted, set at 1 bar when the car was setup.

 

Last engine, 245bhp @1.5bar boost. I'm not saying nothing else works.....but for me personally i had problems delivering and holding boost as i wanted.

 

i love mine, if for no reason that having economy, normal and 'fun' setting at a touch of a button

Amal valve is still a great boost control and if you use the correct size jets inside the pipe outlets you will have a great boost curve. Put your money to better use imo as an amal valve second hand and working is only 20 quids worth. You got loads to do before you thin about boost control issues. Have a read of some technical essays that are on a site which explains how to set them up correctly and make the most out of them.

A bleed valve should never be used!

 

a properly setup bleed valve/actuator combo will work fine, although surge a tad.
mine does surge a bit, but only 2psi at peak.
no amal on mine as i'm using Megasquirt, but I'm definitely going with a Gizzmo, such good press about these and another gauge to add to the list

 

personally i found a manual boost controller worked well and was much better then a bleed valve i had fitted.
its one of the types with a ball bearing and spring- mine only spikes 1psi or so and comes in alot quicker and harder.
there quite cheap which was my main reason for buying it as i didn't have 200+ to spend on an electronic unit.

 

Ok an AMAL valve is an ELECTRONIC BOOST CONTROL VALVE. Why would anyone remove it and FIT A MECHANICAL BOOST CONTROL BLEED VALVE makes no sense.

Its like having an EFi management and removing it to fit MFi

An amal valve is just a mechanical bleed valve. It is opened when the ignition is turned on, it then bleeds of a quanity of air dictated by the size of hole drilled into the restrictor in the vent outlet.

So I feel it a little optimistic to call it an EBC

Modern boost controllers use very high quality valves and microprocessor control. The Gizzmo MS-IBC is probably the best there is when it comes to cost vs performance. All the Jap controllers have rocketted in price, where the MS-IBC is still around £200.
