But, however shit the launch and every other part of the run, as long as it has grip when it passes the 1/4 mile line, the terminal speed will be condusive to the cars power.
I don't see how this works mate?

The cars terminal speed is effected by every thing including the launch.... i agree to a certain extent that a car doing a high terminal is more powerful, but there have been plenty of cars over the years with far more power than yours and a lower terminal speed up the 1/4......... just gets a bit silly when people start saying that if you don't do 130 over the line you don't have 300 brake!?! what about gearing, the launch etcetc

Not wanting to spur on some big hand bag moment hear mate, but i was watching your car go on wednesday and to be fair your car is no way pushing out the power u think it is. the time factors have given it away but i could tell just by watching and listening to ur car that it was nearer 200bhp let alone near 300bhp, whats going on??
what time factors are you going by? the only one i have is what my 0-60 was, and told that my trap speed was 90mph by crazycage and that was on the low boost setting with the timing gear and dan in the car.
the top speed was done on the low boost aswell and that was also with a passenger aswell. If low boost is 200bhp thats all good as i hit 128mph on that setting.
and 8.5 secs to 60mph bearing in mind my gearbox is a s1 which requires 3rd gear to hit 60mph, plus top out at 130mph by it final drive with the wheels i was running + the lack of grip in almost every gear!

I just cant way up the claimed outputs mate, my s1 has done a 14sec flat with just over 100mph teminal at pod and a 6 sec 0-60 at silverstone, all with just under 220bhp, standard box and road tyres?..

YOUR GOING BY YOUR OWN TIME FACTORS?
How can you compare your car to mine from times taken from different tracks on different days?
santa pod surface is straight and smooth compared to brunters.
what conditions were you in?
was it your first time at trying a 0-60mph?
first time at a timed 1/4mile?
first time at a timed top speed?

my claimed outputs seem way up and you were able to tell that by hearing the car out on track? please can you explain how you worked that one out? i have heard several cars with different outputs and not once was i able to know what power the car was, so please advise what your listening for as i am intreaged?

look mate, Stu collins found there was more grip yesterday than at the pod the other week and his car was set the same as when he ran at pod? he also did a 13.9 1/4 with the car set all over the place with about 240hp in damp, he had plenty of tyres why didnt u go and borroe a set if traction was such an issue for u.?? so im just waying up your power claims here.
as for ur questions to what my first times were, i have never done under a 15.5 1/4 mile, and they were all different conditions damp, dry, grease burger what ever u like and my 6 sec 0-60 is my first and only one i have ever done properly timed? as for the sound thing mate u dont have to be a rocket boff to no what is quick and what aint, lets all get realistic here.

Rob,
All that being said... if you can't pedal it things get MUCH more variable.

It's obvious whats going to make a bearing in straight line booting. Especially on an Escort.

The reason traction doesn't really effect the terminal speed is that on average say the first 60ft takes you 2.5 seconds. That is a massive amount of time for a very short distance. Wheels are spinning and time is ticking, but you're not actually going forward.

When the car grips in say 3rd gear, you are still a very short way down the strip. You are now accelerating and piling on speed - how much depends purely on a combination of power, and power to weight. In reality, the terminal speed over a 1/4 on the sort of cars we run might vary 3mph max regadless of how bad the launch is.

Another way to think about it: At 100mph, you take 0.4 seconds to cover 60ft. So if you had an amazing launch, that gripped instantly and didn't bog down, you would have another 0.4 seconds of accelaration time at the end of your run to increase the terminal speed. A car that does a 13 second quater accelerates at an average rate of 10.7 mph every second - that is after 1 second the speed has gone up by 10.7mph. So if you did a totally impossible launch of 0.4 seconds, you would knock 2.1 seconds of your 1/4m time, but only be 4mph faster on the terminal!

Rick.

point well made basing the sums on linear acceleration like that actually works quite well. I've never really thought about it that much tbh i just turn up and break by car lol

In the real world i think the difference would be greater that 4mph, i vary by at least 0.5 seconds and 3mph across an average pod day and that is with pretty consistent launches, I would say that a terrible terrible launch on a wet day would make a much bigger difference like perhaps 10mph compared with a good dry launch.

and i dont think im clever !!!!! i am clever clever .

and after all the shit that you have posted in the past few months about your 300hp car i thought it was great that you managed a 92mph trap on your 1/4 .... really shows your power.

nice 16 sec' 1/4s and a great 17sec dash to 0-100 and a very good 0-60 aswell lol .

p-s will be good to see what d4rst manages when his 300hp gets on the black stuf.

To be fair - good lad for going and abusing your car. I did a thrash once, and got a horrid missfire - downpipe cracked and so afr was reading much leaner than it actually was. Car massivly overfuelled so didn't set any times, things can turn to shit very quickly.

I agree with Rick here, lots of lads go to Brunters and have a bad day, either cars break or no speed/time records get broken.I'd really like to see Morph's times later in the year when he goes back in the better weather, plus the lad is fitting different gear ratios too I think.

I think its better to encourage RST owners to keep improving their cars,so that whatever discipline they enter,be it 0-60,1/4 mile/top speed or like myself, lapping quick at a trackday, their RST gets faster. Micky

The only reason yours was there was because you were saying how fast and how much power you had, so i guess they wanted to see it and what it could do??????...... Now we all no its a load of Booolarks and you have got a slow 200bhp car if that? no direspect to cars with 200hp by the way!! So looks like you wont be getting an invite again unless you get a big boy power figure and lay some proper times down. But Like i said its all just talk the talk on here as usual..... your a legend mate!!!

Handbags!!!!! you really know how to do that bit well!
the only reason mine was there was becuase the guy who should have been there did not make the figures and withdrew! was that you? sounds like it!

Good day bad day, fair enough. But if you set yourself up for one the fall is harder...

Not going to comment on the cars power figures, but traction when Morph was running was pretty much non existant, and as I went in the car with him for one run I can confirm that the power delivery is very very harsh when it comes on boost and anyone would have struggled with the combination of the car and the conditions.

I'm sure Morph won't mind me saying that he was nervous about running and was very honest about his limitations when it came to launching the car.
