Default Cold oil worries

i was thinking what with all this really bad weather, and cold! would it be advisable to go down to a 0- 30W, like everywhere seems to recommend!, or stick with the mobil 1 10-40W

many thanks

Fuck no!!!
That will be like water when your engines hot lol
IMO The ideal oil for a well tuned RST is 10w/50, this will get round the engine quick enough from cold start but not be too thin when the engines running at it's hottest, 10w40 is ok if your not running big power and your not ragging the shit out of a stock T3 at 20psi heating up your oil like there is no tomorrow! lol

Hi!
I dont drive my hobby car in winter but i have 5w40 Teboil diamond full synthetic in engine. I usually start car once/month in winter season to charge battery and get coolant moving.

I just started couple of days ago my car (it is cold storage) -10 and it works perfectly even without pre-heating. 5w40 is good oil for around year usage. We have here normally -20 to -35 celsius at winter time and 5w40 works fine. Only problem is transmission oil because it is not full synthetic and it is bit sticky when starting under -5. I use Castrol EP 80W. I think 0w motor oil is too thin for 80´s cvh engine.

Castrol recommends 5w40

Engine CVH Capacity 3,75 liter
Filter 0,25 liter
Use: Normal
Service intervals:
Change 10000 km / 6 months
Magnatec 5W-40 C3
Magnatec 10W-40 A3/B3
EDGE Sport 10W-60

ps:

10w-40 is fine, go 5w-40 if you want better cold flow.

Cheers

must admit to the 0-30w being a bit thin, i went into halfrauds, and consulkted thier little book, and trust me thats what it said!

they even do a special halfords "ford" 0-30w oil !
the fella was stunned when i said it says here 0-30!

I think they are probably calling it Ford specific and referring only to Zetecs, which normally run on a 5w-30, but are also ok with a 0w-30. They seem to forget Ford made a few vehicles before they came up with the Zetec
