Does it only do this when you have the lights on? What about rear screen defroster or rear fog light? If it only does this on the lights then you have a huge current draw on that circuit. If not then your battery/alternator is packing up.

and out a voltmeter on the battery when its on idle with all the lights, wipers, heaters etc on then see what its charging at, should be anywhere between 13.5-14.5 volts

had this same problem with mine recently, it wouldnt charge at idle but rev it to 1200rpm and it was fine, i knew my old 55 amp alternator wasnt the best anyway so i had a new 70 amp 1 built, put it on and still had the same issue, turns out auto electrics near me who built the alternator put the wrong size pulley on, i never thought to check as i wasnt aware there were different size pulleys untill someone on here mentioned it, the 1 they fitted was too big so wasnt spinning fast enough to charge at idle, they've sorted it now, now i can have the lights, fans, heater, both heated screens, wipers etc all on and still charges at 13.8v at idle and 14v with everything off.
