But at least I can get things moving again, what with finding a good block and waiting for these rods it's been off the road for almost 3 months now!!

Cool nice one mate, i loved it when i got mine, makes you realise why cvh rods are prone to snapping eh lol!! Don't think standard mahles will fit straight on though due to the floating gudgeon pin, iirc a friend of mine had his machined slightly to fit.

Good stuff, that took a while!

how cheap can you get rods for CVH's? I've saw rods for nissans etc for stupidly cheap money

Yes it did, TBH I was starting to loose the will to live, been nothing but a ball ache trying to sort a good block and then these F**king rods!!
They were £330 with ARP bolts, which is almost £140 cheaper than from the PEC website!!

Dropped them into my engineers today so will know for sure tomorrow, but I emailed PEC and asked......

"Hi,

Are the PECFORD1.6T Rods a direct replacement for standard Ford rods, will they fit the standard Mahle pistons?

Thanks!"

To which they replied......

"Karl,

yes they are direct replacements.

Dave PEC"

So should be fine!!

Nice set of rods, i still have to say that std items would take 260bhp easily. But let see how much power you get from your engine.

Thanks Antti!
But std rods have bent and snapped at only 200bhp so i'm not going to risk my engine by using them.

thats abit crap like, but just think your engine should be far more reliable now especially as you use as a daily hack

It should be the worlds most reliable car by the time I finish it, everything is going to be new! lol

Well i'm not going to have the pistons machined cos that will cost about £100, what I will do is sell the standard Rods, Pistons and put the money towards some forged pistons.

Just means more delays...........

Thought as much mate A friend who's engine we did at the same time as mine couldn't afford forged pistons and had the ballache of machining the pistons, i used forged so fitted straight on.

I called PEC today to ask why they said they are a direct fit when clearly they are not and was told that....

"they are a direct fit you just have to machine two slots in the pistons for the circlips"

How the fuck is that I direct fit??
If I bought new alloy wheels for my car and the salesman said they are a direct fit but when I offered them up they was 3 stud not 4, and he then said it 's ok you just need to drill an extra hole I would not be best pleased!!! LMAO

you can tell by the bronze bushings they are a floating design, so defo not direct fit.

why dont you just get your pistons machined, they are proven for over 300 ge ge's anyway, less waiting and less expense=on the road quicker, just a suggestion

Yeah i'd never looked at how pistons fit on little ends before so I didnt realise.............. obvious now though!

It's not that much cheaper, £100 for machining and £90 for the rings puts it within £140 of buying Wossners with rings and pins.
Also Jano was telling me that in his experience standard pistons may well do 300bhp but not for that long, they are prone to getting too hot round the ring lands and cracking...... and I would rather do it once and do it properly.
Dont really want to be concerned about internal failures if I'm driving it hard........... which I will be!

bad news, but these things are sent to try us.
at least it's only a fe months, my project had been off the road 13 months, then i updated firmware on MS and that's set me back again as it corrupted everything
i'd have gone zvh or ZT going by the work needed.

Yeah it's not so bad really............ at least when it's done i'll have one of the best CVH engines I could build!

Pec Rods, Wossner Pistons, NMS Flowed head with Stainless valves and bronze inserts, Newmans Cam with Solids.

If that doesnt make good reliable power then what will???

If you have decent second hand pistons on the rods with rings then these items are worth a decent amount of money to someone who needs them. I would expect you would get around £100 for the set, maybe more? Then the spare ARP bolts you have could be sold as new for the correct money. So in theroy your only £150 or so short on a set of forged pistons which would be the making or breaking point of your engine.

Would be a shame to lose a decent head, block which you have had machined, rods that could be damaged, Turbo that could get damaged etc etc etc..

For the sake of spending a little extra which will have so many benifits, over the original option without using forged items.

After all this its a shame that you didnt spend the same amount on building a 16ZT. As you wouldnt of needed to spend money on a flowed CVH head, which instead you could of spent the mony on a set of ZT pistons and rods with a std 16v head. The end result would cost less with a ZT and also produce more power with the same amount of boost as a CVH whatever head you have!

So my advise would be just spend the extra and be safe, buy the correct pistons for your setup, get it running and be happy. Instead of being skint with a whole load of metal paper weights.

This is from my experiance not hear say or internet chats.

lol Yeah thats exactly what i'm going to do! I'm not really into expensive paper weights....... although ATM I seem to have a few!
The build has kind of come about by accident as a result of things happeneing over the last year or so, If i'd known I was going to end up doing a proper build and knew what I know now about CVH's I may well have gone ZT route in the first place.
But here I am with a decent spec CVH coming together so well see what I can do with that!
