Default Help! Rev counter not working and battery light!

Hi guys,

Took my fiesta rs turbo last night after a week of it sitting and the rev counter isnt working, however the speedo is working flawlessly. Now then, the battery light is on constantly but is very dim. Whenever i brake it goes bright. If i brake my front heated windscreen button light goes out, if i let go it comes back on....

None of the other dash lights work but the actually lights and brakes work fine.

Any ideas???

Thanks

Hi there, had the same thing on my rs cab, it happened when i put a new alternator belt on old knackered alternator, battery light is normally a sign that it is not returning enough charge, when mine went the next thing to stop working was the sound system, then it'd just die and misfire as it ran out of electricity, I'd say check your alternator belt isnt flapping about like a dick in the wind and replace it anyway, if still no joy then replace the alternator onlt a few bolts. Hope this helps , cheeRS

Sounds to me like a bad earth mate. Thats usually what makes lights come on when other things are used, and causes the rev counter to stop or bounce.

My ERST had a bad earth and it made the heated screen light flash with the indicators and revs to bounce around.

I'd go with with a bad earth or failing alternator.......... or both! lol

I'd certainly be looking at fixing the alt first, then almost definitely fixing earth points after that.
Charge the battery up and see what happens then.

right,

quick update, when i start the car in the morning or after about 10mins of it being off the battery light is no longer on. However, if i put my foot down hard the battery light then comes on and stays on.

Do you have a multimeter? could always try checking the voltage across the battery terminals when the car is running it should be 14 v (or very close) if not then may well indicate the alternator isnt returning what it should. incidentally when its switched off should have 12v across the battery so check that too could be the battery. might just need a new belt only a fiver from europarts. Hope this helps.
