buy no you dont have to remove the rool bar just pop the shafts out disconect the speedo drive and clutch cable remove the gearbox cradly then remove bell housing bolts and slide if off the input shaft job dun lol

Bit more of a fiddle if the car's still got abs imo, messing with the belts etc......i'd happily give someone £100 to do the job, not one of my favourite jobs to do without a ramp!

Can you seriously do it with the roll bar still attached? I've done it tens of times but always disconnected it from the front (so it drops to the floor but isn't actually removed as such) as i thought it would get in the way

its just a base spec mk4 escort so no abs etc but does have rs anti roll bar and its a s2 box which has now lost 5th gear and making some nasty noises.
