Default Rs turbo timings ignition and cam

Hi there,

I have only recently bought the car and i think the guy had messed about the timing.... he fitted a new cam belt an possibly has timed up to standard. The dizzy was rotated completely clockwise??? why would he do this?

It has a piper CVH285T2 cam kit.... what timing should i run for this?

The car has lots of lag, is a rough tick over, is this cam a bit too much for road do you think?

can any one suggest a better cam, im looking for low end and mid range power to help with lag..

Thanks very much

Set it to 12degrees BTDC with the vacuum hose to the ECU disconnected and block off where it joins the inlet manifold, that will be fine until you have a setup on the RR. Dont forget to reconnect the hose afterwards or you'll melt your engine!!

why would i do that lol.... But thanks very much for the reply, i hear oddkids, (janno isn't it?) is great with drive trains but has buggered a few engines due to incorrect fueling? Could be wrong, big fan of his RWD stuff

And cheers Karlos, you seem to be a hive of rst knowledge lol

Going to do the ignition timing with a stobe tomorrow (any thing special i should look at?).

Along side the cam timing. Is it you that has recently fitted a newmans cam kit?

Nothing special to note mate, as I said above whip the vac hose off the goes from the inlet manifold to the ECU and block the inlet manifold off (ECU doesnt need to be blocked you can just leave the hose hanging whilst you set the timing), and set it to 12BTDC with a strobe (paint on the pulley cut out and the 0 mark on the cam belt lower cover, which is the biggest of the 4 marks).
If you have a vernier pulley on the end of your cam just set that to 0, because every engine is different there is no right or wrong place for it, it's just so your tuner can play on the RR and see if it makes more power one way or the other.

Yes I have just fitted a Newmans mate.
