Default S2 decent service

Hi there,

I have just bought a 88 rs and want to do a proper service. Can any one suggest a good oil/oil grade, and also what plugs people seem to think are the best, car is running around 15psi of boost with a mild piper cam so would i need 'hotter' than standard plugs?

Also would people recommend a group a coil?

The under bonnet temp seems to be hotter than the sun, is this usual? what if any thing do people normally do to keep this down.

Cheers all

Rob,

I bought a Series 2 that had been on SORN for 2 yerars at Christmas.

I bought the following from Matt Lewis in one order and a great price of about £110 including potage.

5l of Mobil 1,
Oil filter,
Set of 071 plugs,
Dizzy Cap,
Rotor Arm,
Group A Coil,
Motorsport Leads.

Can't recomend Matt Lewis highly enough for the service parts, one box next day delivery!

Im going to have to look into it to be honest, the temp gauge is all over the place, i can get really hot air from the heater and the gauge be on stone cold, and other times the gauge is nicely in the middle, it not a short circuit etc, because the gauge moves smoothly and reads inbetween etc.... so maybe dud sensor or no thermostat like yours???

Its got a GRS intercooler stuck in the way of the rad with a manual kenlow inbetween which does work, but doesn't seem to do much

Thanks very much all, think the cam belt has been done, but will check tomorrow, are the water pumps prone then?
