Yeah also if your ECU 'hears' knocking or reads high ACTS it will shut your boost right down to save your engine.

I dont use one.
the chances of the amal actually working are slim to none. Ive had 3 that havent worked. The last one used to kill the boost if it went over 6psi!!

That's not the valve's fault - the ECU switches the valve's earth to open and close it in order to get rid of excess or dangerous boost in the event that the inlet temp is too high or boost pressure is above the limit of the chip. If the valve isn't connected you only have the actuator's preload setting to determine the amount of boost the turbo makes.

I wouldn't go without one personally, or at least some form of automatic boost control.

in theory yes but by the time the ecu detects knock and sends the signal to the anal valve its usually too late, been there twice

I remove it and put manual boost controler, and I think there is boost comming faster after put mbc. someone told me that can be possible because amal is pulsating device ...

but I also go check my fuel mixure on boost before remove amal. I know that in summer amal reducing boost to 0.3 bar , from time to time, so amal isnt bad to have. But if you are sure that you have good conditions (good fuel mixure, normal intake temp) put manual boost controler. I have it in car, nice thing it is.

edit: amal can late and send signal after knock BUT it low down boost and prevent knocking.

oh right. thats just what i was told by a tuning company.
removed the valve anyways and it seemed to cure the problem, just got a boost controller instead.

I have something like this...works good.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Turbo...Q5fAccessories

yes, it goes between turbo and wastegate actuator. 10 min job. depends on model, but that from link is very good and boost can be controled from car (you can put it somewhere, under seat...)
