I would recommend speaking to ava or sitech racing, the rebuild all depends on what you are really after and how deep your pockets are, for a standard rebuild make sure you try and source as many genuine ford parts as poss, loads of possibilities as well such as zvh, 1.9 etc. I know simon smail advises when going for a zvh, use a st170 block as this comes with forged pistons as standard so they can take a bit of stck in respect of boost, A good standard rebuild would be reasonable affordable though, mahle pistons, new rods (pec h-beams £250) big/small end bearings, ford head gasket, usual other gaskets etc, if the head is ok then leave it, Best speaking to a specialist though

oli cap could be blocked breather, rocker cover leak is proberly just the gasket, upgrade it to a rubber siera one. and turbo could just need the seals doing.could work out alot cheaper than a full rebuild mate.or you could buy my big spec zvh t34 turbo and get some management and easily have 280bhp to play with

A decent 1.6 bottom end using all gen parts and more than capable of producing 200BHP will cost you around the 1k mark. All other parts such as modded head/cam etc will be ontop of this.

If you have a bit of disposable cash (which you wont since you have an RS) get a fucked FRST lump (with management and loom) and transfer that over, canibalise your existing engine for its T3 bits that way you have the best parts of both engines with EFI ancilaries to run it.
Failing that stickl with MFI (trust me it really is ok to stick with it, not as much to go wrong as EFI. maintain it and it generally doesnt fail) get a fifth injector, stage 3 T3 (exchange your old one), get a big valve head off here from someone (they come up regularly enough) then its just a case of sourcing some pistons and rods and a GOOD engineer to put it together and set it up. Get it built right the first time, look after it then leave it alone and enjoy it. then over time sort the rest of the car (the car will make you do this by the way lol)
Or buy an engine from somebody who's breaking theirs.

so let me get this right , you bought it from simon , had it three days and its fucked ?
you been ragging it ?
did he say the motor had any issues when u bought it ?
how much you looking at spending on a rebuild fella ,as this determines everything else tbh as far as aftermarket parts ,tuning ect ,
200bhp, eaisly achived on mfi and standard 1.6
not nessacary to go zvh or st170 bottom ends blah blah ,
only issue is poor meetering heads ( that big box or pipes n lines where your airbox/filter sits ,
if your after reliability , stick to as close to standard as poss,
would always recommend a rebuild if you want carefree miles ,
but it can all soon add up

Hi Rab,
Sorry to hear about the ERST, you should have rung me and I would have offered some advice.
The engine has got a newly ground crank, bearings and oil pump fitted. The top end had a good set of followers and a piper cam fitted, it might benefit from some new valve stem oil seals?
Turbo,,,, well I guess it was just its time!!!!!
I did have it as my daily drive for 4 months and it has been to Manchester and back, no problems at all.
I guess I drive like a girl?
Simon.

Simon - No offence mate , but i work with Rab and have owned my share of Rs Turbo's so naturally had a good look over it when he brought it up here and was amazed to see that considering it was bought from a tuner ( yourself ) the K&N was completley loose ( just needed jub clip tightened up ), the front exhaust bracket was rattling to f**K ( was also completley loose), nearly all the rocker cover bolts were loose and as such the gasket has started to leak and considering its just had a crank etc the sump gasket was leaking to f**k aswell.
Curious, who actually carried out the work on this?
I would fire them.

No offence to you mate either, the car was sold as £2300 daily drive not a £3500 show car.
I only sold my daily drive because we are having a baby soon, and as we own 2 RS Turbos mine had to go.
As I said in my first post Rab could have called me for help.
Simon.

A would understand if a put ma car in "siteck" to get tuned, Then it fucked after a month or so a would be like must the drivein!!
But to buy a personal car from a guy who runs a big company "siteck" thot it would be half decent??
I know its not show car nick £3500 but for £2300 a at least expect the car to last me till the pappers come thro ma door.

Completley agree with Bizie.
The items i pointed out would only have taken around half an hour to sort ( excluding sump gasket of course ) and are very basic things.
Simon - Mabey it would be worth giving any future car the once over before you sell it on as any resulting criticism reflects upon your buisness in my opinion.

Rab, I fully understand what you are saying, I had every belief that the car was in a fit purpose. It never let me down, I had no idea the turbo would fail, the exhaust ??? and the rocker cover cap never came off with me.
Bring me the car back and I will fix any issues, its the least I can do, but you should have rang me.
I am in this buisness for the long term not to try and con people.

Second hand engine
be careful buying a second hand engine mate because it could be just the same if not worse than your own one.if i was you id be saving up and getting a fresh rebuild, least then you know its all fresh and good to go.just my advice, otherwise you could find yourself getting cheesed off very quickly with it.
