Default xr3i turbo engine

i have a low miles 1.6 injection engine, its very quiet and tight,no oil burning or usual tappet noises,if i got a used s2 turbo could i change the pistons in the injection engine and bolt the turbo manifolds to the head?or would the head need changing also,if that was the case could i use the injection cam as its the best 1.6i lump i have ever heard.ta,lee

If I'm correct head will fit fine, will need a turbo spec cam fitted. Bottom end doesn't have a oil feed for turbo so your best off finding a good RST bottom end or full engine and using your head.

Oil feed is easy to sort but would be more tricky to get return sorted. The heads i think are simalar but the exhaust valves are soduim filled to with stand higher temps. I rebuilt a rs turbo engine block using an xr3 i crankshaft as they have same number stamped on them. To get oil return you could have block drilled and tapped out with thread to take a fitting to take retun hos from turbo as its a low pressure return. Its surprsing what parts are the same when you look in to it.

yes but the exhaust valves are stronger material on turbo head. so you could burn your valves out using xr3i head

The standard valves are plenty strong enough for turbo use. Anyhow it was only S1 and the first S2s that had the sodium filled valves.

The main difference between the engines is the pistons and management.
