Default Respraying a s1 non white ?

Hi There.

I'm looking for a S1 for a project, with the intention of respraying it either Red or Black.
I understand that the S1 is held in very high regard.
I wanted to hear your opinions on respraying them non white colours?
How would it be recieved? The interior will be kept completely orginal.

I would'nt be ruining an old classic would I ?

( i understand that it wouldn't be worth as much a completley original car, but i'm not planning on selling )

Thanks Ollie

No shame in respraying it I'd say, unless it was a 10k miler mint 1 owner car, but if it's just an "normal" S1 then why not, you'd just be freshening it up anyway. A few people have done it before. Mostly red/black/grey ones what colour were you thinikng???
Sorry just read your post again you said red or black...

It will be worth less money when you finish than if it was white.

Other than that, cant see what difference anyone else's opinion makes.

I think S1's look fantastic in red!

I wouldnt worry about "ruining an old classic" as there is plenty of mint examples to go by.

Thanks for the replies,
I know ultimatley the decision lays with me, however it's always good to hear other peoples views.
To be honest i was expecting some stick, especially for the S1 owners.
I was originally thinking of spraying it Dark aubergene, I have a RS2K in that colour and love it,although wasn't too sure if it would look quite so at home on the S1 ?

Once i have sourced a decent shell, or project car, I'll be sure to add pics of progress or start a project thread.
