Talking how to setup a performance cam

hello peeps! i have just bought a kent cam cvh35, i am attempting to fit it to my freshly built xr3i with an rst engine, i dont know wether kent cams was the best decision but i just need my car backand my cam was worn.
how will this cam make my car drive is it ok to use with a standard bottom end, chip, air filter and exhaust?
o and what the blo*dy hell do i do with the degrees and pulleys to make it run properly?
what tools do i need?

sorry i have no idea, can do the basics fit a standard cam time it to tdc, just need a hand with th advanced stuff.

If I were you i'd do just that and then any further adjustment can be done on the rolling road by a tuner. You will never know if your getting the most out of your engine without being able to compare/meassure the result on a R/R and then it can be adjusted as needed.

I agree with Karlos mate, if your unsure then fit the cam your self and take it to a tuner to set it up. Better to be safe then sorry.

As for the cam, a kent CVH35 is not a bad choice, i got one in mine, think its been in there for about 4 years now, still working well. With cams mate its all personal preference, there all a much of muchness. Some people will say one make, others will say a different make, just see how you get on with it really.

i had bad luck with a cvh35 cam, it ate itself on one inlet lobe, which made it noisey, didn't notice any real power drop and it was 18 months later.
as for timing, if you don't know, then stick it on a standard pulley.

Thats fine mate, you will do no damage!
Even if you went from one extreme to the other on the vernier the valves will not hit the pistons, you can even be a tooth out on the cam belt and they will still clear with ease!

Yup 100%! Because i've tried it!

I thought i might of had a valve hitting piston (tapping sort of noise) so i tried the vernier at each of the two extremes and then the cam belt one tooth in either direction to be 100% sure...... turned out it was No 1 big end!
Valves and pistons where 'A' ok it actually ran not too bad considering, but i will point out that I only had it idling i didnt actually drive it like that.

If it didnt hapen on yours then your lucky, dont forget that engines differ dramatically from oneanother, peolple use higher lifting cams, larger valves and heads that have been skimmed etc, what worked on your engine will probably ruin another by turning the vernier to its extremities. Also, some verniers move more than others.

Yes any of those things can and will make a difference!

For everyones info..........My head was running a Piper 285T2 (their highest lift road cam), had been skimmed at least once, valves where standard, and the Vernier range was from -20 degrees to +20 degrees.

as the man says a tooth out wont damage valves etc, done it to,as for setting up,rolling road is the only proper way to gain best results from a performance cam.
