Default URGENT pics of heat shield req.

My ERST doesnt start when hot. the starter motor is so close to the turbo it gets hot, expands and then wont start til i let it cool for 15 - 20 mins or so.

Does anyone have any pics or info on materials and fixing points for a turbo/starter motor heat shield.

Thanks all

Alex

The original heat shield was a mineral insulation type material. It was fixed with a clip to the turbo oil return pipe. Almost all of them have since burn't away to nothing but often the clip still remains. I once used my clip with a peice of carbon fibre successfully but found it difficult to get at the actuator, so it came off.

Easy way to solve it is probably to by some exhaust heat wrap - then when you get a new starter wrap it with this.

BTW it might be worth asking at Ford for it - they may still list em?

cheers for that. I'll ask fords right now (got a direct line )

out of curiosity, why wrap the starter when its a new one? could i not wrap the one on there now? and also, wouldnt it still heat the starter if its wrapped in this stuff? Bet these are stupid questions!

BMW do those heatshields for the mini. its bendable stuff!

you can get the starter motor heatsheilds from ford still for about Ł20! its a hardenend foil type thing that clips onto the oil return pipe to cover the starter motor!
