Whats the best way of sorting out my sloppy gearstick? Im not that mechanically minded though i can do simple things like service and change brakes etc.
It all goes into gear fine but just feels really loose. Id just like to tighten it up so it feels a bit "newer"!
Im getting a garage to change my clutch so can i get them to do it at the same time and if so how much and what would it entail, (ie, is it better for me to get parts 1st)?

Go to Ford and buy a Puma gear stick and linkage, they go on with only light modification and are much tigher than a new MK4 escort setup!

All MK4 escorts are the same mate! It will be no more than £50 from ford.

what karlos said. Puma selector or maybe a quick shift but that route is expensive. All mk 3 & 4's gear linkages are like a knife in a jam jar.

I've not done it myself but i think it's just drilling the 4 holes for the bolts to go through as they are in a different place.
I'm not 100% though!
There was a thread on here about it not long back so do a search for Puma linkage mate!

Go with a proper quickshift if you can afford it, best mod i have done to mine, nice positive changes.

b&m quickshift if you can get one, theyre still for sale on ebay IIRC. brilliant upgrade to make if you dont mind paying the money, otherwise go with the puma idea, the conversion has been popping up on here alot lately.

you only have to drill one hole the puma linkage only has 3 bolts not 4 like the escort

Might go for the puma setup then. B&M looks quite expensive at about £250!!!
