so what would you recommend for a s1? mine isnt running big power or owt (bout 170 ish) but i expect temps to be quite high...i dont really wanna put a front mount on cos i will have to cut metal away..also will prob affect air flow to radiator..would like it to be in the original place ideally but am stuck if the double capacity 1s are shit

Was the intercooler of the day as nothing else was available, now spoilt for choice on the intercooler front but its what you are happy with its just name snobbery, i have a chargecooler on my S1 which is a definate no no but it works for me, everyone will tell you how crap things are and have no experiance of them personally as its all word of mouth tuning.

the question is not weather you have had problems with the engine, its what the act temperatures are.
Excessive act temperatures can help detonation.

The Pace may have been reasonable a few years back, but tuning has moved on but the pace has not. The amount of power being obtained from the CVH was unimaginable 10 years ago.
The fact of the matter is that if you run over 20 psi like myself the pace is not up to the job and you will get high ACT temperatures.

There are now better performing products available imho.

pace do a front mount too mate thats actually a top bit of kit
for std boost the double capacity is ideal as a std replacement, good upto 12psi after that the charge temps gettin a bit high

I've got a Pace twin core intercooler on mine and had the car chipped about 3 months ago the boost peaks at 14psi and holds at 12psi at 170bhp and 190ft and haven't had a problem with the standard turbo and the temperture is fine so they must be more than ok for that kind of boost but I just bought a Radtec intercooler a few weeks ago which is getting fitted along with the Airtec turbo cooler so my Pace will be up for sale soon on Ebay if any one is interested.
