Default LSD box

I was sure the box that went into my Mk4 was an LSD box...... it felt different in the corners, but mostly just when properly caned.

With the car jacked up the other day it was noticed that the wheels rotate in opposite directions.... the sign of an open diff. Would this happen on an LSD box which was knackered?
Also any options for sorting the LSD?

So either I've got a knackered LSD that only locks when hot/or it feels like it... or I was diddled and it never had one

a lot of poeple think that if it has a lsd that the wheels shound spin the same way in respet to the road, ie if you spin the near side counter clockwise then the of side should spin clockwise but the diff has a percentage of off lock allowing the car to turn the only true way I have found is to have the box off and look through the drive shaft slots to see the centre bar,if there is a bar then its a non lsd, if you can see straight through ith no bar then its a viscous lsd

hope this help mate

They will turn the opposite way with a resistance if a gear is selected. In neutral, they should turn freely the same way.

Varying opinions everywhere! The internal bar seems to be the only thing people agree on........ can't really go by that without ripping the car apart though

when you have both wheels off the ground, you should feel a lot of resistance when turning one of the wheels, without an lsd, it turns freely and you'll feel virtually no resistance.

if u jack it up put it in neutral and turn one wheel clockwise the opposite side shoul move the same way
if they spin in opposite directions it aint lsd
thats how the lsd works putting traction thru both wheels the same direction

Go round a sharpish corner quite fast while accelerating, when the car wheelspins does it light up the inside tyre and maintaine it current curve or does it light up both tyres and understeer off the road?

jack the car up, get a mate to hold one wheel whilst u spin the other, if your wheel turns and your mates one dosent then it has no lsd if it turns even though hes gripping it hard then its lsd
