hi, no its not illegal -what is illegal is not doing it right and hitting someone.
providing its all looking good and brakes work at the end you have no problem with mot etc
providing it brakes within mot tolerences---------cheeRS

thanks for that guys, its for a mate who has a mercury grey RS Turbo in his garage with no engine in! his dad is a copper and said that its illegal if its been manufactured with ABS then not have it! i did think that if its got a new MOT then it auto invalidates the old one and makes it roadworthy and legal!

i was told its a grey area and depends on the friendliness of the tester. when the mot tester puts your details into his computer it tells him it has abs. if it doesnt have it he should fail you.
thats just what i was told though by a third party so dont put any money on it.

This is exactly what I was told from the horse's mouth (MOT Tester). I enquired about it at my last MOT. He said mine was coming up on the PC as being fitted with ABS, so if it was missing, he'd have to fail it.

if thats the law then he has to stick by it. not many will risk their mot testing licence by waiving it through.
its not 100% clear to me yet what the law is.

you can only test what is presented to you. if there is no trace that the car ever had abs then it wont fail. all you could do is advise it if you think it should be fitted.
