Default First track day help?

hi i plan on taking my series 2 on a track day in jully, firstly has any one any pointors on the car i.e what it needs and what it should have, max temps for things so i dont kill the thing!?

basic spec is

1.6 cvh
newman cam solid lifters
4x4 cosworth turbo but on .36 housing? (being repaired)
EFI
4x4 cossies intercooler
oil breather and catch tank
biege injectors
Stage 2 chip
Boost is around 12 PSI (setup coming when turbo is back)
omev revlimiter

We guess its give or take 200 bhp compared to a mates Sereis1

The car has no rear seats Toyo R888 on the front, and yoko a520 (i think) tyres on the rear?

Suspension wise its on spax springs and boge shockers all round (very stiff on the front)

Brakes standard up front although new, cossies rear disc conversion.

one of my main worries i think is oil temp i have never held the car long enough to see oil temp issues on the road but will i on track and should i get a cooler beforehand or just see how it goes?

Any help or advice would be great, fund permiting i fancy some new brakes soon but doubt i will be able to do so before the track day

Cheers

Brakes would be a good idea....4x4 cossie calipers/2wd discs would be well up to the job, imo you'll struggle with the standard brakes on track if you push the car hard. With regards the suspension setup you have i wouldn't push it too hard till you get used to how the car reacts i.e odd tires/suspension, also drop the tire pressures a bit from what you normally run as they'll get bloody hot! Water/oil temps may be an issue especially if it's a hot day, you don't wanna be seeing oil over 120 degrees/water 110 imo....my oil temps went over 120 without a cooler last year so i'd advise you fit an oil cooler too beforehand to be on the safe side. What boost are you planning to run on track??

brakes and oil isuppose are my main issue's i have seen an oil cooler setup that gives a thermostat as generally i rarely see over 80 unless stuck in traffic so it wont be in use most of its life!

i am going to have a look at the best place to mount it and see what kind of size, i suppose bigger the better within reason!? watertemp i only have the crappy ford gauge at the min and again this doesnt rise unless in traffic? stop before it hits red and have a cool down lap?

boost wise i have been running around 11-14 PSI for years and with the current engine it goes well enough! i will se what the rolling road brings but i cant imagine more than 16 on the current chip/injectors at all.

i would like to push the car but see it more as a learning curve i dont mind backing off for a cooldown if i know what my issues are i can address them i guess. What kind of pressures should i be looking at from a cold tyre?

ive never had an oil temp problem on track
monitor it when your on track
fill the oil slightly above max
make sure you have decent brakes or they will get cooked
take it easy for the first few laps getting used to the car and track
make sure its upto running temp before you go out on track

As i said above you wanna be backing off and having a cooldown lap if the oil goes over 120 degrees, and as you say the same if the water goes into the red. As you're running relatively low boost you may well not have too many problems, mine was ok when i used to run 14psi. However i was on a trackday recently and holding 21psi the water temps were gettin too high for my liking after about 15 minutes pushing the car very hard but the oil didn't go above 110 degress now i've got the cooler on. I normally just do a couple of slower laps to cool it down then go again. i'd drop your pressures about 5psi from what you normally run on cold tyre and check them when you come off track to see how much the pressure's have gone up. I run my R888's at about 25psi cold.
