They must be 2 wide as my 17s were 7inch wide and didnt catch unless was going over massive bumps...

I've got RS 7's on mine which are 7.5" wide with 205/40/17 tyres, no arch mods, koni's, lowered 40mm and mine doesn't rub. I've found tyre choice (cheap tyres seem worse), wheel offset and suspension make a huge difference rather than the actual size of the wheel.

I'm pretty sure my 17's are ET35 and I use Yoko Prada Spec 2's (although I've not really seen my S2 for quite some time. Never had a ny clearance problems until I had a new arch section welded in due to tin worm. Now I get some scrubbage. Nothing Andy the Anglegrinder can't sort for me though. lol

When i got my car i had Voodoo's on the car in 17" rubbed like fuck on every corner, i changed them for my Dare V1's which are a 40mm offset.

These were fine uintil i put the rear discs on it then the rears started rubbing slightly until the tyre wore the kit and only rubbed on really bump dips on the road.

This was it fully loaded going camping

if i remember rightly if you put a rear disc conversion on it pushes them out 1-2mm dont sound much but that will be why you had a little rubbing after fitting , if your using the standard drums et40 is the best bet
