Default MK3 Shell resto - Edit : ACID DIPPING companies

As above, i've got a Series 1 which i took off the road over a year ago, been stripping it down back to the shell and collecting parts for the rebuild. Thing is i want to get the shell done professionally cos i aint got the skills or time to do the welding and painting. So can anyone recommend anywhere around Derbyshiire/South Yorks, maybe Notts that can do a totally mint shell resto.

And how much does it cost roughly for a proper decent full respray? obviously you get what you pay for but i'd rather get it done right.

Plus what about costs of welding?? got gen ford panels - front panel, wings, front cross member and non gen sills inner & outer.

I've thought about going as far as the prep work pal, just not sure on the welding. Got access to the equipment at work but never used it myself. Spose i could practice welding before i have a go...

As for the sills.... i heard that if your weldings not upto scratch you can warp the panels which would would'nt go down to well

Fair play to you mate for doing yours though, think i might have to get the welder out and see how i get on in practice.

But just incase my welds look like pigeon sh*t do any of you have a rough guide?

Cheers

Cheers guys, i'll look into the links.

I've been looking at getting the shell acid dipped before i have the new panels fitted, that way i can get rid of the rust in hard to reach places plus if it uncovers any nasty suprises that can be dealt with before i have it sprayed.

I phoned a company in the midlands www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk and they gave me a quote of £745 for the shell, doors, tailgate to be treated + another £800 for the E-coating.
Just wandered if anyones used this before or knows someone that as, plus are there any other companys that do this so i can get a quote - surface processing are booking in for September 2008, time too save i suppose . Cheers

Go to the link above, then click on "FOR CARS" shows a mk1 escort getting dipped, looks mint.

That shells looks absolutley mint mate, but £4000 for the welding is crazy money, to say he's spent £10,000 alone on a tidy looking shell to start with and had no major fabrication work is nuts, lol. I know what he means by doing the job right the first time but surely £4000 for a small amount of welding is excessive by any standards. Still, it'll be a stunning Series 1 when finished and all the best to him, well worth following the resto thread on this one, cheers.

Jacko

Thanks mate, i'd go for the e-coating for sure, i read about the problems with treating areas unreachable by standard painting such as any box sections which would be left bare metal unless e-coated, just rot inside out.
