chipped ecu question
hi all, just woundering what the difference is with the hearts and diamonds ecu 4 a series 2 escort and the one with coloured spuares, the thing is i have a 90 spec s2 with a standard 90 spec ecu on it which is the hearts and diamonds one.but i have a chipped coloured square one and woundered if i can use it in mine or will it cause a problem. and is there an easy way of double checking if its chipped, ive had it open and its got a chip mounted to the back of another, cheers adam

the diff ecus are listed below with what is diff about them
s1 ecu blue red blue no knock sensor
s2 86/87 ecu blue red white no knock sensor
s2 88 spec blue red black knock sensor
s2 90 spec ecu hearts diamonds hash knock sensor
the only diff between the 88 spec and 90 spec ecu is the 90 spec can run a bit more boost as std than the rest
if u have a chipped red blue black ecu this will work fine on a 90 spec car
any of the others are used and u have no knock sensor detection
if it is chipped it should have the manufactuers name on it ie s for superchip or turbosystems etc
the std chip is a motorolla item
s1 ecu blue red blue no knock sensor
s2 86/87 ecu blue red white no knock sensor
s2 88 spec blue red black knock sensor

cheers for reply mate.it is the blu red white one so it not to be used then? it was given to me as a spare so no money lost.are there any different ones for more power or does one chip do all.the chip has a blue spot with an s in the middle of it so sould be able to sell it on as a chipped ecu then thanks adam,

u can use the ecu but if ur engine begins to knock the sensor on the inlet manifold will send a signal to the ecu to retard the ignition but as the ecu is a non knocker sensor one it wont retard the ignition to stop ur engine melting,
the chip u have could be a superchip one but all the ones ive seen are a white spot with a blue s

just fitted the other ecu 2day and it works ok,just ad a few problems since, first it built up good boost and blew off a hose so got that sorted, but the car doesnt kick u back like it should,it is now chipped has -31,cam and stage 2 head, any idea why, it shows 14 psi on the boost gauge but sounds like engine getting killed and feels like the actuator isnt opening, cheers adam

dont boot it until u get it set up on a rollin road as the fueling wont be adequte for the boost increase and it will run lean at high revs and more than likely melt a piston
a rollin road tuner will make any adjustments needed and tell u if there is any other probs with the engine

not a fan of putting these cars on rollers but as above get it set up before its too late, a lot of damage can be done very quickly if somethings not right

PassionFord Post Whore!!
When it come to me, it had a S1 engine in it, with a S1 wiring loom.
Runs ok, but be honest, i just rebuilt the engine and its done 10 miles. but seems fine.
so once i start getting some miles on it, and tune it, i wont know how it performs.

try pm'ing him and ask him what other differnces there are
