Default Coilovers........

Lookin to replace my koni's and thought i'd go for somethin a bit better this time, do quite a few trackdays/qtr mile etc so was thinkin about coilovers. Just wonderin what everyone's running and what your opinions of the different brands are???? Was thinkin bout a set of Gaz ones....haven't got a clue about what pound springs to go for etc, and was wonderin how easy the back ones are to fit??? Modifications etc??? Cheers in advance
Dave.

That setup is just SOOOO expensive. I'm in the market for new shocks, but just cannot go to the price of that setup.

I've been really pleased with my GAZ ones Spent a good while speaking to them at Autosport about what springs were best for how i use my car

Decided to go for them on mine as Tim had been using them on his s2 and they seemed ok

The kit went on easily - the only thing i was advised to do by GAZ was fit a rear strut brace

exactly

theres such a massive gap in the market for a mid range coilover kit for the more budget oriented rs owner, if someone was to bridge the gap between the apparently laclustre gaz kit and the awesome and yet highly priced bilstein stuff, im sure it would sell like hotcakes!!

as it stands, iv decided to stick with koni adjustable shocks and a set of lowering springs, as there wasnt exactly much praise for the budget gaz n avo kits, and my budget doesnt stretch to bilstein kit, and nor do i need something quite so in depth

ps, i think fitting the gaz rears involves seam welding the rear turrets, but some have been fine without. personal preference i guess

It amazes me how much money rs turbo owners spend on engines and turbo's etc but skimp on the suspension

Did look at the mef kit....did seem alot of money, though it wasn't just the price, i was wantin to know how much actual difference the average person would notice when spendin the Ł1500 odd on the mef compared to say Ł500 on Gaz etc???? Don't doubt the quality etc is so much better than the cheaper options, just wonderin if i could justify that sort of outlay???? Anyone used the Gaz gold kit....that's about Ł1000 i think, read a couple of reviews that claimed they were pretty good....however it's always good to hear someones opinion who's actually got somethin!!

I bought the Mef adjustable track control arms after I had a really shit pair off of someone else who is supposed to be the bollocks at suspension bits and bobs.

The quality of their work sold it to me. Besides my car was getting way too quick for the chassis

Try their adjustable track control arms and you will see what I mean by absolutely outstanding quality of workmanship and good prices

Cliff S1: Got a set of their adjustable tca's already mate Like u say very good quality....and i'm not doubting the quality of their coilovers either, i bet they're second to none....my mates got a set of tarmac spec bilsteins on his 205! In your opinion tho are they noticably much better than the cheaper alternatives??

Cliff - Mine is not a high budget car. I already have adjustable TCA's and the Turbo Technics front end, with Compression Struts. I just want some good shocks/springs. Coilovers aren't really suited to road use anyway.

Would be nice to have another option than Koni.

How much can you improve the handling? If that isnt a stupid question!

I was thinking about those MEF adjustable track control arms too as mine would benefit more from beter handling than speed.

i have been converted on this - from driving the car the way it used to handle, i thought it was ok with the koni's and how it was - but driving the same car with adj TCA's and coilovers set for me, just feels much more surefooted and carries itself easier is the only way i can describe it

It was Dingy who made me try the tca's and coilovers, but have liked the way the car is so much with them on he's made a rod for his own back cos i made him look into sorting out an adjustable arb set up and adj rear set up is on my christmas list

SWITCHBLADE The Turbo Technics adjustable anti roll bar is similar to the set up found on the RS1600i made for the S2 i think
It's a really rare item, only know of Tim's, Christian's, Tony Turbo and a lad at Cheshire group who have them

This is Tim's

This is an RS1600i one

When the gearbox eventually dies in mine, decided an easier way of doing it is to use a Series 1 casing to use the 16i arb

Say what? 250bhp RS with standard sized warped discs

Having been on track with rsdaz in his Mk5 RS2000 i would say GAZ coilovers are very good for the money they charge. Obviously if you can afford it everything MEF makes seems to be of the highest quality.....

No Cliff, as i didn't think my insurance company would like it? and i've got my full interior in still
all my other mods are declared though so it might not be so bad

I have front and rear strut braces welded in and they are making a noticeable difference, as i used to hear the dash and interior creak when i pull onto my drive as the car flexed and you can open and close the doors when you jack the car up now

One of the lads i know who used to race can't believe i take it out on track without one though Might be something to add to my list

Get a cage in there. It didn't hardly cost me a penny to add to the long list of mods declared.

Who needs interior. It's just means you don't have to give people a lift
