Iv got something like this, my dad said mine could possibly be the cam though.

can only hear it on light throttle....

duno if it is the cam...or tappets...or both

but been told its most likely the tappets

iv had i few escorts that have tapped and changed the tappets and it always turns out the same still tapping i would say cam, it's worth trying the tappets as you would want new if it is the cam

My noise seems to go when i rev it higher, what does this lean more towards to?

Unless its still there and cant hear it as bad due to engine noise

Theres no point just changing the tappets alone as after a few miles they will just start tapping again, new cam kit mate only way you will solve it

change the cam and tappets, they wear each other so if u replace them seperately and u will find the tapping will be back very quickly.
change both, the standard kit can be had for approx £100 from a motorfactors and is fine

also check your oil pressure could be early signs, or blocked strainer in pickup, or blocked galleries in head, posibilities are endless
