Default turbo woes

think my turbo is going out the door. basically if i rev the engine and then snap the throttle shut quick i get quite a bit of smoke out the exhaust. it's white with a slight blue tint. does this sound like turbo oil seals to you guys or maybe piston rings?

cheers

tom

ah shit guess i better get the head off during the week then. thing is didn't think it'd be that as it isn't using water and there's no oil mixing with the coolant. i'm beginning to lose my rag with this car now

Hold your horses:

Right if you excellerate heavy then let off and see a puff of smoke behind you, thats over run and it's the turbo seals starting to fail, no problem change the turbo and engine oil/filter.

If you don't see the above, do a compression test of the cylinders and see what you get accross the board, most on warn engines are somewhere between say 130-150psi below 130 and you may need a rebuild soon.

Also check the breather system is working correctly, remove all pipes and clean through, if you don't already and aftermarket or brand new ford pot can be purchased, i had this problem on my fiesta.

From your description of the smoke and colour i would 99% say its not head gasket failure so don't rip it apart, leave that as a last resort.

Let us know how you get on.
