I am looking to buy a alloy rad for my rst as the old rad is dead but who should i get it from GRS ,Pro alloy or other so if anyone got some experiment from there alloys rad good or bad ill be happy to hear

dont know much about them both, but been told the grs is good for the money.

theres a pro alloy rad and intercooler with twin fans on around 300 on ebay...couple months old!

the proalloy one looks and the core 43mm where the other one is 40mm but its £308

i was thinking of getting a pro alloy one myself as all there stuff fits 1st time and works well but im not sure if i need to spend £300 on a rad as even on full boost my temps dont seem to go above half way on the gauge , but they do look nice and it would match my pro alloy front mount intercooler

you get what you pay for i got an pro alloy on 2 of my s2 and works a treat. the finish on it is great but if you take one look at the airtec you know it cheaper and piss poor quality

I had a pro alloy one in the red S2 in my sig,

Quite easily one of the best mods i made that, ok it cost £375 fitted at
jamsport but it never warmed up passed the O on the temp gauge in my
dash.

Highly recommended!!!

ok the finish is better,

but dont mean the cooling is.


Thier 500 inter core's aint that Gr8, so thier RST rad could also not be the best.

But i'm not saying the ProAlloy isn't the best, just We dont know, as no one has tested them on the same car, on the csame day, doing a proper test.

i have got a radtec one on my s2 and its great good welds, quality finish won it on ebay for 170quid

i dont believe that, due to the more modern core design's that gets used in 'SOME' alloy brand item's.


My cossie runs hotter with a good condition std item, than my AH fab's Alloy item

Standard rad for me!!

Why bother with anything else? If the car can't keep cool on a standard rad, then in my opinion other things need to be looked at.

I have a non-turbo bonnet at the moment, with no vents and it still doesn't run hot.

You can't compare an Air-to-Air cooler with an Air-to-Water cooler.

Also, Alloy cores are more readily available to make Intercoolers from, who knows, perhaps a Copper Intercooler would be great.

Whatever the case, I still stand by my opinion that my RST cooling is excellent and it really does only have a standard rad.

I have to say, my cooling system could be better....

I have

standard (17 year old) radiator
2 x Kenlowe fans
13 row oil cooler
82oC thermostat
standard header tank and cap

and sitting in traffic the fans only just keep the car cool- sometimes goes up to the N on the gauge.

am thinking about getting a turbo cooler and an alloy rad cause the end tanks on my standard rad are cracking and i also have some water wetter which i have not put in the system yet.

also my car runs warmer at night as the fans aren't as powerful when the headlights are on

Dan, the core's have changed over the years. I've uses 70 quid copper rads, non OE and they have been superb. I haven't been on track, but with the very thick cossie cooler covering the rad, lots of very fast road work as well as traffic, the rad never struggles.

I don't know which brands are good and which aren't for alloy. Maybe because they are physically thicker they cool better? There are firms that make custom copper rads - maybe this would be the ultimate?

I drove mine today, remember it has no bonnet vents. I sat in traffic on and off for about 20-30 mins and to be honest, I was worried that the temp gauge had stopped working, it was only just out of the bottom area. OK, so it isn't mega hot at the moment, but I really can't complain about the cooling.

Didn`t get a alloy rad this time I got the old copper rad rebuild and the problem is sorted

My AH fab rad has slightly less core area to my std ford item.

but in 28oC ambients my cossie see's 93oC on a hard track session with the AH fab's rad,
But with std item on a 10oC ambients, it see's 95oC on the track.

only thing changed is the rad.


I don't know either what Alloy Rad's are good or bad, but the only way of knowing is test them on 1 track car.

got an airtec rad on my van and its mint! never had a prob with it fitment was good and does its job the way an ally rad should.

not sure, but seems in good condition.


still i tried Copper and alloy 'NEW' std items on my XR2t, and the alloy items are alot more effeient, as on the copper ones i see over 100oC on the road whilst det checking @ 6000 is 5th, Alooy wont go past 95oC.

i've got a new Alloy one to fit, but not on there yet.

last time i had a alloy one on there was nearly a year ago.
