That won't of been your problem mate, that sensor only controls the cold start valve when the engine is stone cold, it does absolutely nothing when the engine is hot. Its a Thermo Time Switch (TTS) by the way.

I would check to see if your fuel system is retaining pressure. I had this exact symptom on my cabriolet when i first converted it - as you say it was a fucking show up on the petrol station forecourt.

Mine would start after about 4-5 mins of solid cranking

This was because the fuel pressure wasn't being held in the line, you will hear some funny noises from the tank if you have the same fault i expect. And also pressure release when you take the petrol cap off.

I had the same problem a year or so ago, and replacing the fuel pump relay (purple one up behind the drivers side of the dash) seemed to do the job. worth a try as they're pretty cheap.

used to really get on my tits having to push it away from the pumps!

I had this. Mine was a problem with the wiring in the fuse box. Basically to get the headlights working as the realy was shagged, some previous owner had bridged some fuses between eachother in the fuse box, this in turn was fucking up the immobiliser on my toad alarm.

I removed said wires and replaced the relay and I never got the problem after that.

My trick at the time was to start the car with the door open (something was really screwing with the alarm) and it would go ok. Also made the clock reset every time I opened the door!

Check there arent any fuses bridged!

You need to test the fuel pressure in the line. Turn it off for a few minutes and check to see if there is pressure in the line or not.

cool
I know And as soon as I took out the wires bridging the headlights to the sidelights it worked fine and has ever since?????!!!!! Something to do with ignition lives I suppose. The LED on the alarm was all screwy too, only going the right colour with the door open etc.

With the clock, Chris, the guy who had it before me used it like a turbo timer, every time he stopped, he'd open the door to reset the clock, wait for the clock to tick up to the desired number of minutes and turn the car off

The electrics on these cars never cease to amaze me.
